Desmond gazed down at his unconscious father and spoke quietly, “I’m sorry, Dad. The Hudson’s can’t afford to lose you right now.”

He straightened up, determination hardening his voice. “I’t bring Aunt and Uncle home safely.”

The next morning, Edmund stirred awake, disoriented. Sunlight streamed through the windows.
