Chapter 328 Enemy Hideout

Kade nodded slightly, his eyes locked on the horizon where the sandstorm was finally settling. “We rest for an hour, then push forward. If raiders are this close, we’re nearing our objective.”

No one in the team argued. They all began checking their equipment, moving with a quiet efficiency.

Even the wounded guy who’d given me trouble earlier was now carefully helping me sort supplies, his eyes full of genuine respect. With me and the others fully integrated, the team’s pace quickened noticeably.

Kade used the satellite GPS to chart the safest route, steering us clear of several unstable sinkholes. Isprinkled a special repellent blend along our path to keep scorpions and desert snakes at bay.

“At this rate, we’ll reach the target zone before nightfall,” Kade said, tapping the red marker on his digital map.

Zachary watched the distance counter on his device drop steadily. “On past ops, this stretch would’ve taken us eight days minimum.”

Clark was helping me reorganize the med kit. He glanced up. “Ms. Soren, what’s in that repellent? It works like nothing I’ve ever seen.”

I handed him a small pouch of pale yellow powder. “Mostly desert sage and prickly pear extract, plus a few… special additives.””

“Heads up!” Desmond yelled from point position.

A desert snake shot out from behind a rock, aiming straight for Clark.

I reacted instantly, tossing a cloud of powder into its path.

The snake writhed in midair, hit the sand, and slithered away in a frantic hurry.

“Holy hell,” Clark breathed, still shaken. “Before today, that would’ve cost us a man. Those things strike seven times faster than a werewolf on the hunt. One bite and the venom shuts you down for good.”

He turned to me, his face flushed with relief. “Thank you.”

I waved it off casually.

By dusk, we reached a narrow canyon. Kade raised a fist to halt the team. “Movement ahead.”

He pulled out a thermal scope and scanned for a moment, then a faint smile touched his lips. “Got it. Raiders‘ hideout is just through this pass.”

Zachary jumped into command mode. “Squad A draws their attention from the front. Squad B flanks from the-”

“Hold on,” Kade cut in. “They’ve got heavy firepower. A direct assault would bury half of us.” He looked toward me. “Your call.”

I gave a quick thumbs–up, then pulled out several sealed ceramic vials, passing them to the nearest soldiers. “Toss these downwind. Give it ten minutes.”

Shoving a photo of Natalie in the man’s face, he demanded flatly, “Where is she?”

The raider leader grinned, revealing a set of sharpened teeth. “Wanna know? Get on your knees and beg.”

Without a word, Zachary drove his fist hard into the man’s jaw.

“Talk!” He hauled the raider up by his collar. “Or I’ll knock every tooth out of your head!”

The leader spat blood and smirked. “That pretty little thing? We had our fun and left her for the buzzards.”

A cold light flashed in Kade’s eyes. He stepped forward, but Desmond was already on the man, rage blazing. “You’re dead!”

Blow after blow landed on the raider’s face.

“Let me handle this.” I moved forward slowly, looking down at the scarred, burly man.
