Chapter 335 Imprisoned and Desperate

Nira’s POV:

His grip tightened around my jaw, hard enough that I thought the bone might snapbut I refused to scream. I held my ground, staring straight back at him without blinking.

Just then, a sudden gust of wind howled outside the dungeon. Grains of sand whipped against the stone walls, scratching and whispering in a way that made my skin crawl.

The guards shifted uneasily, but Richard’s face lit up with wild excitement. You see? Even the desert obeys me now!

Just as I braced myself for the crunch of breaking bone, his hand dropped away.

Before turning to leave, he barked orders at the guards. Fetch the scarabs and the black cat’s blood. I want everything prepared before sunrise.

Then ne drifted toward the ritual objects laid out nearby, fussing over each one. One moment he was muttering under his breath, the next he was laughing to himselfcompletely lost in his twisted obsession.

That was when I noticed Kade beside me. His eyes were bloodshot, and the chains around his wrists groaned as he yanked against them, hard.

The iron had already torn through skin. Dark blood welled up, dripping steadily down the links before pooling on the stone floor in a sticky, crimson puddle.

Desmond saw it too and snapped in a sharp whisper, Kade! You’re going to ruin your hands!

Shut your mouth!Kade snarled, and heaved against the restraints once more.

This time, the shackles ground against bone. The sound was sickeningdry and gritty.

Sweat gleamed on his forehead, but he kept fighting as if he didn’t even feel it.

Watching the blood spread, I felt my own chest go tight. Kade, stop,I said, my voice low but urgent.

He stilled for just a second, lifting his gaze to mine. His face was smeared with blood, but his eyes burned with fierce, desperate

light. I can’tI can’t stop. His voice caught in his throat, shaky in a way I’d never heard before.

Blood continued to drip from his wrists. The sight hurt so much I could barely breathebut I was powerless to help.

Before I could try speaking again, two guards grabbed me and dragged me away.

They locked me alone in a small stone chamber next to the altar. Right outside my door, they didn’t bother to lower their voices. Got the pure blood wolf ready, one said. Just wait till dawn. We’ll start the ritual and sacrifice her.

The Bandit leader, Dende, flashed a yellowtoothed grin. Relax. They can’t have gone far. The man’s badly wounded, and the girl’s carrying himshe won’t get far on foot. No water out there in the dunes. They won’t last the night.

Richard snorted, I want them back here before sunrise. I’m going to make Natalie watch as I carve out Nira’s heartand then itell her the truth myself.

Dendo nodded. As he turned to leave, he threw over his shoulder, Found some blood trails east of here, on the dunes. Already sent men tracking them.

Out in the desert, the night was pitchblack.

Natalie staggered forward, Killian heavy on her back. He was fading in and out of consciousness.

Her feet were raw, blistered and bleeding. Every breath tasted like iron and dust.

NatalieKillian’s voice was barely a whisper against her ear. Put me downYou might make itif you go alone

Shut up,Natalie gritted out. Sweat and tears streaked down her cheeks. We’re getting out. Together.

Just as her legs were about to give out, she caught the soft sound of footsteps somewhere in the dark.

She froze, then dragged Killian behind the cover of a nearby dune.
