Chapter 154 A Crushing Negative
I woke up that morning and found myself standing in bont of the mirror, fiddling with my collar without even realizing it
That was the third time I’d adjusted the neckline of the same shirt.
“Nervous?” Kade came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin lightly on my shoulder.
I let out a slow breath. “Kind of”
Turning to face him, I couldn’t hide the worry in my voice. “What if… what if it’s not a match?”
Kade cupped my face in his warm hands and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. “No matter what the test says, you’re still Mira. That won’t change.”
He held my gaze, his tone steady. “Just like how I feel about you-even if my wolf Odin disagrees, my mind’s made up. You’re mine, from now on.”
His palms were solid and reassuring as they closed over my cooler fingers. “Come on. We shouldn’t keep everyone waiting.”
Downstairs, Desmond was circling Natalie like an excited puppy. “Aunt Natalie, I’m telling you-Nira has to be your daughter! That stubbornness? Totally yours when you were younger!”
Natalie chuckled, shaking her head. “And when did you ever see me ‘younger,’ exactly?”
“Dad told me stories!” Desmond waved a hand expressively. “I’ve got a gut feeling about this, trust me!”
When Kade and I reached the bottom of the stairs, Desmond hurried over. “Nira, finally! I’m going crazy waiting here.”
Natalie’s eyes met mine, gentle and calm. “Ready to go?”
I nodded, though my throat felt too tight to speak.
At the clinic, I held Kade’s hand the whole time the nurse drew blood.
The pinch of the needle barely registered-all I could focus on was that small vial filling with dark red,
“Ms. Hudson, results will take about an hour at the earliest,” the nurse told Natalie politely.
I knew this place was part of the Hudson Group’s network, one of the top private medical centers in the state. No surprise Natalie had chosen it for something as sensitive as a DNA test.
“Can’t you speed it up?” Desmond grumbled.
The nurse offered a professional smile. “For accuracy, an hour is the fastest we can do.”
“That’s enough, Desmond,” Natalie said, her wolf-gold eyes glinting in that way that always made him fall silent.
Then she turned and gave my hand a light squeeze. “Let’s wait in the lounge.”
Inside the quiet room, Desmond couldn’t sit still. He paced, peeked into the hallway, sighed loudly-anything but relax.

Still, Lyra had been reading oddly tohis scent Again lately, polling back whenever he was near. I didn’t get it, but down wasn’t the moment to untangle that
Time dragged. The air in the lounge grew heavier with each passing minute. Eventually, Desmond gave up pretending to be patient and hovered by the door.
“Shouldn’t they be done by now?” he muttered under his breath.
Right then, footsteps echoed down the hall.
Jason pushed the door open, a single report in hand.
His expression was unreadable, carefully neutral. His eyes moved across each of
