“Congratulations, you finally put it together,” Natalie said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “I’ll only discuss this with Killian. If he wants the mate bond dissolution agreement, tell him to come see me himself.”
With that, she ended the call.
On the other end, Dina slammed her phone down onto the hardwood floor. Her pretty features contorted with fury, and her eyes- glowing a faint wolfish red–burned with rage. The charm bracelet around her wrist trembled violently, its tiny bells jangling in a sharp, discordant ring. Almost at once, hairline cracks began to spiderweb across every glass surface in the room.
“You bitch!” she snarled through clenched teeth, her sharpened claws digging deep into her own palms until blood welled up. She seemed numb to the pain as she let out a wild, frustrated scream. “Just wait… once I have Killian back, I’ll make you beg for
death…”
Time was running out. To finish what he had tasked her with, she needed to get Killian to meet Natalie face–to–face.
When Natalie’s phone rang and Killian’s name flashed on the screen, she hesitated only a moment before deciding to go.
They met at the Rosarium Bistro. Killian was already there, sitting alone by the wide
e window.
Natalie paused just inside, studying his profile from a distance, memories flooding back. She remembered their first meeting–a bright, lazy afternoon. A clumsy waiter had bumped into her, spilling iced coffee all down her shirt. She’d been irritated, and then… her wolf had stirred, letting out a low, instinctive howl inside her. She’d found her fated mate.
Seconds later, Killian had appeared–polite, charming, stepping into help. The moment her wolf caught his scent, it went wild.
After the mate recognition sparked between them, everything fell into place easily. Natalie loved his sense of humor, the gentle way he treated her, how he always seemed to know what she needed. Little by little, she gave him her whole heart.
They’d been through so much in the years since. Even now, part of her still couldn’t wrap her head around the idea that the man who had loved her so completely could change–could give his heart to someone else.
She was still lost in the past when Killian turned his head and lookether.
His gaze was cold, detached–needles piercing straight through her chest–and it jerked her brutally back the present.
Natalie walked over and took the seat across from?
him.
“Sign it,” Killian said flatly, sliding a folded document toward her. His tone was icy,
Her fingers shook slightly as she reached for the paper. “Killian, do you really not remember… everything we
“I’ve told you already. I don’t love you anymore.” The words came out mechanical, rehearsed.
Natalie stared right at him, eyes burning but refusing to let any tears fall. “Fine. Then say it one more time–Killian does not love Natalie and I’ll sign.”
Killian’s frown deepened with impatience, but he opened his mouth to repeat the phrase. “Killian does not
Abruptly, he clutched at his chest. A sheen of sweat broke out on his forehead. His lips moved silently, trempling, as if the word

love had lodged in his throat and refused to come out.
“Not… not…” he choked out, voice strangled, like invisible hands were squeezing his neck.
