Chapter 70 Not Just Bad Luck

Nira’s POV:

The feeling hit fast and hard. I didn’t think. I just moved.

I grabbed Tessa’s arm and yanked her back just as she stepped forward.

A loud crash exploded right where she had been standing.

A large planter hit the ground and shattered, dirt and broken pieces scattering across the

pavement.

For a split second, everything went still.

Then Tessa’s face drained of color.

She stared at the spot, then snapped her head upward, anger taking over. “Are you kidding me? Who did that? Show yourself!”

I kept hold of her arm and looked up as well.

Nothing.

No movement, no shadows, no sign of anyone.

“Derrick went up,” I said. “Let’s wait.”

He had taken off the second it happened.

A few minutes later, he came running back down, breathing hard. “No one’s there,” he said, shaking his head. “I checked everything. Doors, windows, all locked. No one could’ve gotten out that fast.”

Tessa let out a frustrated laugh that had no humor in it. “So what, gravity just decided to ruin my day?”

Then her expression shifted, irritation building. “This isn’t even the first thing today. I almost got hit by a car earlier, then someone nearly dumped boiling water on me, and now this?”

I turned to her immediately. “Wait. This has been happening all day?”

She nodded, clearly rattled now. “Yeah. This morning, right outside my dorm, a maintenance worker was carrying a huge container of boiling water and almost spilled it all over me. If I

hadn’t moved, I would’ve been seriously burned.”

“And at lunch.” Derrick added, still catching his breath, “we were heading up the stairs to the library. Some big guy came charging down and almost knocked her over. I had to pull her out of the way.”

He frowned. “Her wolf hasn’t awakened yet. If she’d taken that hit, it could’ve been bad.”

Tessa crossed her arms, her mood darkening. “So what is this? Just the worst luck ever, or is my wolf being dormant messing with my instincts?”

I didn’t answer right away.

Because this didn’t feel like luck.

It felt deliberate.

“For now, go back to your dorm,” I said. “Stay inside.

She hesitated, then nodded.

“We’ll meet at six,” I added. “Main auditorium.”

After she and Derrick left, Vera called. She picked me up soon after to show me the

apartment.

“You found something already?” I asked as we walked into the building.

“I started looking ahead of time,” she said with a small smile. “Once it was confirmed you’d be attending Howard Academy, I narrowed down the options. This one is close to campus and relatively quiet, so I purchased it.”

She unlocked the door and led me inside.

The space was open and bright, fully furnished with a clean, modern layout.

She walked me through each room before taking me down to the garage.

“For convenience,” she said, opening the door, “I arranged a car.”

A brand–new vehicle sat inside, understated but well–built.

“I kept it low–key,” she added. “Given your preference.”

I nodded. “This works. I’ll get my license soon.”

I hadn’t had the chance before. Back in Silvermoon Pack, I’d been too young at first, then too busy training. After returning to the Soren family, everything else had taken over.

Driving had never been a priority.

“I can arrange a private instructor,” Vera offered.

I shook my head. “No, I’ll just go through a driving school.”

After heading back to campus, I made my way toward the main auditorium.

Students were already filing in, the crowd growing thicker by the minute.

“Who’s hosting tonight?” a girl nearby asked, tugging on her friend’s sleeve.

“Dorian, for sure,” her friend replied. “He hosts everything. And Seraphina’s confirmed too.”

“I heard Dorian’s been trying to get with her forever.”

“Yeah, but she’s into Cassian,” another girl cut in. “Football captain, pure–blood lineage, whole package.”
