Chapter 24
Her words were soft on the surface but sharp underneath.
Every word felt like a sting.
“Do I really have to spell it out for you?” Since Skyla had already put it that way, Winter saw no reason to

Put another way, she thought it was dirty.
Skyla and Winter had grown up together. They had known each other since elementary school. Even though Winter was two years younger, she had skipped two grades because she was smart, and they eventually attended the same university.
If there was anyone in this world who truly understood Winter, Skyla was certainly one of them.
Skyla understood exactly what Winter meant.
Yet she still spoke gently. “Winter, I really do want to give it to you.”
Winter had never seen anyone so eager to give something away.
If it was not stupidity, then it was deliberate provocation.
Impatience flickered across Winter’s eyes. She clicked her tongue. “Since you don’t want it so badly, let me give you some advice. If you don’t want it, just throw it away. I am sure Chris won’t mind.”
To her surprise, Skyla showed no sign of being offended at all. Instead, she replied calmly, “Of course Chris won’t mind. No matter what I do, he won’t mind.”
As she spoke, she placed her hand on her lap, on those legs that had long since lost all feeling and
would never walk again.
In that instant, it felt as if something slammed hard into Winter’s chest.
Skyla’s legs had been injured in that car accident years ago because she had thrown herself over Chris to shield him from the impact.
Otherwise, Chris would not have suffered only blindness back then.
That debt was something Chris could never repay in his lifetime,
Forget throwing away a bracelet. Even if Skyla wanted his life, Chris would give it willingly.
Chris might have been a scumbag to Winter in many ways, but she had never doubted his character on this point.
“Since you say you don’t like it, I’ll not force it on you,” Skyla said. She slipped the ruby bracelet back onto her left wrist and casually tucked her hair behind her ear. “But Winter, I hope we can still be the way we
used to be.

Chapter 24
“Don’t worry. My return to Liono City isn’t to steal Chris from you, nor is it to destroy your marriage.”
“What are you rambling on about?” Winter met her calm, mild gaze. “Skyla, let me ask you one thing. When I married Chris, did you really feel no resentment at all?”
The corridor was silent.
The hand resting on Skyla’s leg stiffened slightly.
Winter was a reporter. She was skilled at catching micro expressions during interviews, so she didn’t
miss that subtle reaction.
She curled her lips into a faint smile. “If you do feel resentment, how can you say you want us to go back to the way we were?
“Skyla Jasper, you’re still the same as ever. Incredibly fake.”
Winter raised her brow. “Whether you want to ruin my marriage with Chris or not, no one cares. While you’re still playing these little games, I have already moved on to the next stage.”
She had already signed the divorce agreement. Whatever Skyla wanted to do no longer had any impact on her.
After saying that, Winter didn’t bother to look at Skyla’s expression. She turned and walked toward the elevator, reaching out to press the button.
