Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25

“But I wasn’t lying to you,” Skyla said gently. “I didn’t come back to Liono City to steal Chris away from you. I didn’t even choose to return on my own. Chris was the one who wanted me back.”

The foot Winter had just stepped into the elevator stopped short.

She reached out and pressed the door button, and the doors slid open at once.

She clenched her fingers hard, forcing herself to stay calm and not turn back to confront Skyla.

The elevator doors slowly slid shut.

Winter stared at her reflection in the mirrored wall of the elevator. Her face looked awful. She loosened her tightly-clenched hand, only to see fresh blood where her palm had been scraped the night before when she slipped and fell.

She had thought she was calm enough to face Skyla.

What she had never expected was to hear that it was Chris who had asked Skyla to return.

So Chris had been that impatient. He could not even wait for the divorce to be finalized before bringing Skyla back.

It seemed he truly didn’t take their marriage seriously. He didn’t take her, his wife, seriously at all.

Their marriage had not only become distant. It had become meaningless. Chris simply didn’t care.

The thought left her chest tight and suffocating.

After leaving the hospital, Winter returned to the TV station and threw herself into her work. But the moment she had a break, Skyla’s words from earlier that day crept back into her mind.

By the time she got off work, she called Jimmy again. This time, he answered personally.

When Winter arrived at the hospital, Jimmy was taking his medication. Hearing a knock, he looked up. When he saw her, he smiled and motioned for her to come in.

“Winter, you’re here. Come in.”

Winter walked to his bedside. “Professor, are you feeling any better?”

“It’s just a cold,” he said lightly, “I’m much better now. Sit down.”

Winter sat on the sofa beside the bed and waited for him to finish his medicine.

After coughing a few times, Jimmy spoke again. “I heard you put Jacob in the hospital.”

Winter’s breathing stalled for a moment.

Jacob was Skyla’s younger brother and also Jimmy’s nephew.

Although Jacob had beaten him.

Winter didn’t feel guilty, but she found it hard to explain. “Professor…”

“You don’t need to say anything,” Jimmy said, raising a hand to stop her. “Jacob is a reckless troublemaker. I read the article you wrote. His business being shut down was entirely his own doing. You’re not the type to hit someone out of impulse. If you hit him, you must have had your reasons. I can judge that much.”

Winter blinked in surprise. “You’re not blaming me?”

“If I were blaming you, would I even see you?” Jimmy snorted softly, though there was a trace of disappointment in his eyes.

Winter felt a twinge of guilt. “Professor, I was immature back then. I let you down.”

All these years, Jimmy had never treated her differently because of her relationship with Skyla. He had treated her the same as always.

“I heard from Skyla that you called me earlier and came by at noon,” Jimmy said. “Did you need something from me?”

Winter remembered why she had come. She checked his expression, sensing he was in a receptive
