Sylas took a breath and exhaled as the baptism came to a slow stop. The loose portions of his dress shirt whipped in the wind, but they eventually settled down as well.

That was precisely the notification Sylas was looking for. He hardly reacted at all when he saw it, but he knew that the moment he clicked yes, the entire Emperor Sanctum would be set down a road of no return.

Well... that was exactly what he wanted, now wasn't it?

The thing about the rules of such an old, long-standing organization was that while many were familiar with them, they weren't intimately utilizing the nooks and crannies at every moment they got.

As such, there were many minor rules, or things that happened so rarely that they didn't have them at the forefront of their psyche.

One such matter was the Cycles.

Even the oldest of the Emperor Sanctum had only experienced two or three of them in their lifetimes, and often after experiencing just one, they would fade into obscurity so much-entering seclusion or trying to enter the Demi-God lands for a chance at reaching the S-tier-that they wouldn't be intimately familiar with exactly what happened.

In effect, most of the Emperor Sanctum only experienced a single Cycle in their lifetime, and the vast majority hadn't experienced even a single one.

So how could they be ready for exactly what would happen? Especially when matters like this were unprecedented.

Usually, when a new Cycle began, everything would happen in unison.

First, the Gathering would take place as a method of organizing and consolidating the Karma of the Branch Sanctums. Once these rankings were set, those worthy of rising from the weaker Sanctums to stronger ones would, and in some rare cases, some of the Branch Sanctum elites might climb the golden stairs of their Branch to reach the Emperor Sanctum.

Once this was concluded, there would be an assessment that took place in the Emperor Sanctum—or, rather, on each individual mountain. This would decide the final candidates for the next Emperor head positions.

Once this was finalized, there would be a final Mountain Climb and then a battle, whereupon the winner would be crowned the new Emperor of the Mountain.

Only then would a new Cycle begin.

But there were many things that had gone wrong this time.

First, when the Gathering happened, Sylas snatched almost all of the Branch Karma for himself.
