Chapter 159
Kathleen
Half a month had already passed-as well as the war between the Crescent Moon and the Nightshade Pack. Now, we were cleaning and rebuilding the structures of our pack right after it got destroyed by the war back then and plus, Scarlett and Lucien were back right after Scarlett got kidnapped during their sacred mated bonds.
I sighed heavily. I don’t know what they have done in their past lives to encounter such troubles in this lifetime that almost every day they couldn’t rest nor got time to take a breath since there would be another trouble who would seek them again.
However, it was a good thing that the person who kidnapped Scarlett back then wasn’t an enemy-but rather her grandmother otherwise, for sure another war and chaos would resurface again.
“Thinking about Alpha Draco?” I heard Scarlett’s voice full of teasing as she sat in front of me.
I flipped the documents that I needed to review-since I took this role after I knew that Scarlett was pregnant, and I wanted her to rest or treat this as vacation. After all, a lot of things had happened in her life and she deserves a peace too, that’s why here I am, back to managing the pack as usual since Lucien weren’t here-he reluctantly left Scarlett’s side to help Draco, who was dealing with war between his pack and those who wanted his head.
And if Scarlett didn’t persuade him to go and help Draco-after all, Draco contributes a lot when a war break out between Nightshade and the Crescent Moon before-that’s why he went there and had repeatedly say to me to take care of his Luna in his place and make sure that she is well rested and protected.
I rolled my eyes at Scarlett. “Hell no.”
“You really don’t want him as your mate?” Scarlett tilted her head and there was a teasing grin on her lips. “Besides, I’ve been observing him and he’s not that bad.”
些
“Says the one who cursed him before.” I said while sneering.
She chuckled. “Well, I cursed you both. After all, you two were careless and directly fuck each other as strangers… it’s a good thing that he wants to take responsibility for it and had been pestering Lucien to get your hand in marriage and even court you.”
“It’s not like I got pregnant after we had our first night. There’s no need for him to take responsibility.” I muttered, while my eyes were still locked onto the papers.
She shook her head, and I could feel her gaze heated on me. “You know to yourself that you started to have those emotions towards him too. Why not give each other a chance? It’s not like you hate him anyway.”
I pursed my lips and didn’t respond.
“What are you afraid of?” she softly asked.
Afraid? I’m not. I just don’t want to rely too much on a man-especially if I know that I can do it. Besides, who knows if he is really sincere with me and if he really is, how long will it last?
Before I could speak, I heard Scarlett sigh and her hand reached out, gently patting my shoulder. “Are you scared because of what had happened to me before?”
I froze. I shook my head then nodded hesitantly.
Scarlett chuckled. “You know that we don’t know what the future holds right? I, too, was also afraid to take risks with Lucien, After all. I just had my failed bond and even went through hell to get my freedom back.”
I paused and looked up at her who was gently smiling at me. “It might be seemed like I easily moved on from that failed

bond-but if Lucien weren’t there. I would surely collapse. He had already watched me break down a lox of times and with me to help me get my feet back. Honestly, it was also hard for me to trust him at first. I also doubt whether has a towards me will last and if this second one won’t be a failed one again. I tried to push him away-Godd times I pushed him away, but he still stayed”
“But then again, we don’t know what the future holds. If we let our fear get bigger, we won’t be able to see our future”
I pursed my lips and looked down
1..I’m doubting whether if he was really sincere towards me and if what he feels weren’t just because of what happened to us that night-after all, I could see that he’s a responsible man.
But what if he was just with me because he thinks he’s responsible for it and wants to take the responsibility? What if in the end, he would regret being with me?
Argh, I don’t know anymore! This feeling is too complicated, and I don’t want to delve deeply too it
It is what it is.
I sighed deeply and massaged my temple. “I suddenly wanted to drink.
Scarlett pinched my ear, making me hiss. “What about your promise of not drinking again?”
I pouted. Right, the thing that happened between me and Draco didn’t just happen once, but twice! In the bar and after the banquet-after drinking alcohol!
Just before I could retort that this would be the last time when we suddenly heard a loud horn from afar, making us stand up.
“They are back!” I heard Scarlett happily say as she went out of the room, and I followed her too.
I watched as the warriors-leading by Alpha Lucien, had a bright smile on their faces despite the fact that most of them had been bandaged, wounded from the war.
“Welcome home,” I heard Scarlett say as Lucien, my brother, had already taken her to his embrace, burying his face to her neck, making me roll my eyes at their affection.
Argh, if it were before I would tease Scarlett about it, but now, damn it, I’m also jealous!
“I’m back.”
I was about to shift my direction to talk to the warriors when Lucien looked at me and said with a calm tone. “By the way, as for the figure that you’re trying to find, he’s not here. He’s recuperating in his pack since he’s in critical condition.”
I paused.
I looked at him in the eyes, ignoring the turmoil in my emotions. “And? What has it got to do with me? Besides, he will be fine since they won’t let their Alpha die anyway”
Lucien nodded his head. “Fair point. It doesn’t matter if that bastard dies. Anyway, we already won the battles. Whether he can survive with his condition, it would be up to him”
carlent frowned and looked at Lucien. “What happened to him?”
Lucien held her tightly. He got stabbed in the heart-well, almost an inch to his heart from saving his people and now he’s lying on their bed, still recuperating since the dagger that was used was coated with poison so whether he can heal from it is up to the physician they choose and his resistance”
Iser. I hope he will be fine then? Scarlett shrugged her shoulder then she looked at me. What are you going to do?”

I flinched and immediately defended, “What does it have to do with me? It’s not like I’m the one who stabbed him anyway and besides, I’m not a physician either.”
Both of them just nodded their head and headed to their room-more like it was my brother who was acting clingy to Scarlett, saying that he’s tired and wanted for her accompany.
I rolled my eyes at them and went back to the office, burying myself in the documents-anyway, what happened to him has nothing to do with me. Besides, I’m confident that he’s fine.
They won’t let him die.
R… Right?
I pursed my lips and locked into the documents, trying to distract myself so that I wouldn’t think about him.
I’ve been doing it for the whole two days, not pausing for a minute just to stop myself from thinking if he’s really okay right
now.
It wasn’t until I had been stopped by Scarlett, whose brows furrowed. “Exhausting yourself won’t do. Just go and visit him.”
“Why would I-” before I could finish my words, I heard her click her tongue and commanded the warriors to take me.
“What are you doing?!” I exclaimed as they dragged me into the carriage.
Scarlett smiled and waved her hands. “Enjoy your trip. Take it as your early vacation. Don’t come back early!”
Realizing what she was about to do, I glared at her. “I won’t come back if you would do this!”
Scarlett laughed. “Better! Just invite us if you decide to have a sacred bond! We’ll be there to attend!”
“Argh! Scarlett!”
I watched as her figure got smaller until I couldn’t see our pack.
By the time I arrived-well, before that, I watched as the warriors who had sent me here, grinned while wishing me luck, making me glare at them and watched them leave.
I sighed heavily and went to the Ironfang’s gate-before I stated my name and if I could enter, they had already opened the gate for me.
“Lady Kathleen, our Alpha has been waiting for you.” They respectfully said while leading me inside of their pack, making me frown.
“How’s your Alpha?” I asked. I couldn’t pinpoint why I felt
something weird.
“Well..” They looked at each other and sighed. “…you’ll see him.”
I gulped down all of the questions I wanted to ask, if he was okay, if the poison had been cured, and if he’s really in the critical situation that Lucien had claimed to be, when we had already arrived at the large golden door-which is Alpha’s
room.
