Chapter 216 He Came Back

“I’ll leave them to you, Arnold I said, waving a hand dismissively and brushing past his shoulder.
From the corner of my eye, Taught sight of Nick casually lifting the three unconscious bodies as if they weighed nothing at all.
Von–who had been in his wolf form earlier had already shifted back into his humanoid state and was completely passed
out.
When our gazes met, Nick simply nodded once before dragging the three of them toward the basement. Moments later, the heavy clang of chains echoed upward.
Arnold shook his head. “It’s nothing, Luna. I’ll send the reports later regarding the poison I formulated–along with its antidote.”
The corner of my lips curved upward.
Good.
It would be useful against the Montero family. Though, from what I had observed through Claude, the Monteros likely possessed high tolerance to toxins.
Still, their subordinates wouldn’t.
If we weaken the underlings first, it would spare Lucien and me from unnecessary direct confrontations.
Speaking of Lucien…
I wonder how he’s doing.
And when he’ll return.
I clicked my tongue softly and forced myself to stop thinking about it. There was no point drowning in thoughts I couldn’t
act on.
“Then I’ll get going,” I said. “If possible, send those batches to the Alpha through the carrier patrols.”
Arnold chuckled. “I’m actually enjoying this job. So it’s a bonus.”
I allowed myself a faint smile.
Good.
Because this was only the beginning.
After speaking with Arnold and leaving the three spies in their care, I made my way back to our room. Just in case.
Just in case someone else decided to target the children while Lucien and I was away.
The moment I stepped inside, the tension that had been sitting heavily on my shoulders eased.
They were fine.
My eyes fell on the bed where the children slept peacefully, their small forms tangled in blankets. The steady rhythm of their breathing filled the room with quiet reassurance.
On the sofa, Kane and Kathleen were exactly where I expected them to be–still bantering in low voices.
The second they sensed movement, both of them sprang up.
Weapons drawn.
I stopped instinctively as well.
But the moment they recognized me, they both exhaled in relief and lowered their weapons.
“Luna.”
“Sca.”
They greeted me at the same time.
I walked toward them and nodded. “You’re still awake.”
“You took quite a while handling those three sp Successfully unlocked! sing her arms. “Did you sit down and have tea with them or something?”
I chuckled. “Something like that. We had a… long conversation.”

“And?” She tugged me down onto the sofa beside her. “What happened?”
Nothing complicated,” I replied calmly. “I pretended to be a servant and let them approach me. Once they trusted me enough, I led them to the basement. When they realized what was happening, they attacked. So I sent them where they belong.”
I leaned back casually. Nick and Arnold are handling the rest.”
Kane let out a low whistle. “You baited them yourself?”
Kathleen narrowed her eyes at me. “You’re getting too reckless again. If my brother knew about it, you would get scolded again.”
I smiled faintly. “Just don’t tell him. That plan was for the best–especially to prevent the other wolves from getting implicated. They were cunning and if they realized my intention from the start, either they would do their best to attack me or to use the wolves in our pack as their hostage.”
“If they would use them,” I paused and chuckled. “I would be at a disadvantage.”
Besides, I know my limits too. If they would only attack me, I am confident in myself that I can handle it. If I can’t, I can just drag it off and call for help.
Kathleen let out a faint sigh, rubbing her brows. “Fine, fine. I understand and get what you were pointing at. Damn, if I were your mate, I would be stressed out thinking if you’re acting recklessly or throwing yourself to the enemies as if you had nine lives.”
Before I could retort, she retorted. “No wonder the Alpha couldn’t take his eyes off you–if he did, who knows what you’re going to do next.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re exaggerating. I wasn’t that reckless.”
I think?
“Not being reckless yet you always throw yourself in front of the enemies to fight with them,” she pointed out. “That’s how you’ve always been.”
I don’t know whether I should chuckle or what.
In the end I just shook my head. “Let’s stop talking about it.”
I raised my eyes, looking at Kane who went back to his small training. “Did any suspicious individuals knock or come here?”
Kane paused mid–swing during his training before lowering his weapon and shaking his head. “There’s no one else, Luna. You already dealt with the three spies. Are we sure there were only three?”
I nodded slowly. “For now, yes. Only three.”
I folded my arms. “But just because we’ve caught six so far doesn’t mean there aren’t more. They could still be lurking somewhere, waiting.”
Kathleen leaned back against the sofa, crossing her legs. “Exactly. Some of them might be better at hiding.”
She clicked her tongue lightly. “Or they’re just waiting to replace the ones we caught once their superiors realize contact has been cut off.”
The room fell into a thoughtful silence.
I glanced toward the bed where the children slept.
“Or maybe they’ll get busier,” I said. “After all, Lucien was giving them a hard time by now.”
“Speaking of Lucien, I wonder how they are.” Kathleen sighed.
Kane gritted his teeth. “If I hadn’t been fooled by Shun, I would’ve been accompanying the Alpha right now.” Kathleen rolled her eyes dramatically. “Even if you hadn’t been fooled, the Alpha still wouldn’t have taken you.” Kane shot her a glare. “What? You think I’m not worthy? Or not trusted?”
Before they could start bickering like children again, I stepped in.
“It’s not that you’re unworthy,” I said with a helpless sigh. “The Alpha trusts you. I trust you too.”
I crossed my arms lightly. “That’s exactly why he left you here. He knows you’re capable of protecting us.
Kane froze.
A faint red crept up his cheeks, and the corner of his lips twitched upward.
“L… I’m not that strong,” he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck.

Kathleen Burst into laughter the moment she saw his reaction.
oh my are you blushing?” she teased, reaching out and pinching his cheeks. “How cute! So you have this side, huh?” The softness on Kane’s face disappeared instantly. He grabbed her wrists and pulled her hands away.
“Don’t touch me.”
Instead of backing off, Kathleen’s grin widened. She lunged again and squeezed his cheeks even harder before he could dodge.
