Chapter 26
Scarlett’s POV
The sunlight filtering through the curtains was soft and golden, casting a hazy fow across the room 1 med beneath for sheets, still tangled in the aftermath of last night. My thoughts were anything but calm–Laciers words echoed to my ca his touch still ghosting across my skin.
“Don’t let anyone touch you again, little wolf”
My fingers drifted over the back of my hand, where his lips had brushed. A ghost of a kiss that still burned imo sy sche
Ack! Stop thinking about it, Scarlett Winter! For god’s sake!
I had no idea what he meant anymore. Was it possessiveness? Just a surge of heat? Did he get caught up in the atmosphere! didn’t know anymore!
I sighed, shaking my head to dispel those thoughts.
I sat up and rubbed my temples, hoping a long shower would clear the fog from my mind. The mansion was unusually quiet. I assumed everyone was still asleep from the banquet–or too hungover to care.
Yawning, I slid out of bed and stretched, letting Lucien’s sweater fall off one shoulder. I made my way to the window, drawing the curtain back slightly. The garden below was empty, the dew on the leaves glistening like a thousand stars. It should have calmed me.
I paused.
And froze.
When I turned, there was someone standing by my bedroom door. It wasn’t just anyone.
He was familiar to me.
“Alexander?” I choked, my heart leaping into my throat.
He stepped forward with that familiar smug grin, the one that used to charm me when I was too young to know better.
“How… how the hell did you get here?” I demanded.
He didn’t answer. He just took another step, then another, until he stood inches from me, his scent hitting me like an old memory I never wanted to relive.
He reached out and gently brushed a piece of hair from my face. “Relax, Scarlett. I just missed you.”
I slapped his hand away, my skin crawling.
“Missed me?” I asked, my voice rising. “You’re not supposed to be here!”
He ignored the alarm in my voice and stepped closer. I backed up until my calves hit the edge of the bed.
*I came to take you home,” he said simply, as if it were obvious. “Crescent Moon hasn’t been the same without you. Everyone, misses you. I miss you.”
I crossed my arms, suppressing the urge to punch him in the face and wipe that smugness off his lips.

He chuckled, ignoring my words. “Don’t be alarmed. I am your Alpha. Your mate. I have the right to visit my mate.”
Mate my ass. You should say that to your whore.
I grimaced at his words. “You are neither of those things. Get out or else I’ll let Lucien drag you out!”
The smile slipped from his face for a fraction of a second before returning. “You really believe that? You believe him more than your own mate? Do you really think he cares about you? A broken luna? An abandoned one.”
His words stabbed straight to my heart. I looked at him coldly. “Do you think I won’t do anything to you just because I was your luna before?”
Before he could speak, I let out a mocking laugh. “You’ve got thick skin, huh. I can’t believe I let myself get tied to someone as worthless as you.”
His gaze hardened. He reached out and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. My breath caught in my throat.
“Let go of me, Alexander!” I snapped, struggling against his hold.
He murmured into my hair, “I miss you so much, love. Stop struggling. I just want to take you back.”
“Fuck you!” I tried to punch him in the face, but he caught my wrist and pulled me into a hug.
I gritted my teeth and huffed in anger. I wanted to kill him.
He didn’t budge, no matter how hard I tried to resist. Instead, he leaned down and whispered near my ear, “You haven’t caused any trouble for the Nightshade Pack, have you?”
That’s when I heard it.
The voice that cut through the room was like a blade drawn in darkness.
“Let. Her. Go.”
Lucien stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable, but his eyes blazed with fury.
Alexander stiffened but didn’t release me right away. He turned his head, pretending to be calm. “Alpha Lucien,” he said with a polite nod. “I’m just having a conversation with my mate.”
“Who’s your mate!” I exclaimed.
“She told you to let go,” Lucien said, stepping into the room.
Alexander finally released me, though his arm lingered for a moment too long. I moved away, grateful for the distance.
“I was simply visiting my Luna,” Alexander said. “You’ve had her long enough, don’t you think?”
“She’s not your Luna anymore,” Lucien replied evenly. “You gave that up the moment you agreed to the contract.”
Alexander’s jaw clenched. “Temporary agreement,”
Lucien tilted his head, eyes narrowing. “Shall we go over the terms again? You accepted the payment in full. You agreed she’d stay here under my protection and serve as our advisor. Do you want to breach that now?”

Alexander taybed, but is laughter was strained, “You think money matters more than a mate bond?”
aunton, Lucien countered. “And you gave yours away”
just to bring her back to my side, Alexander said, glancing at me. “Where she belongs.”
she doesn’t belong to you, Lucien said. His voice was lower now, colder, “And I suggest you remember what you signed before you disgrace yourself further
caked open, and Alexander’s Beta stepped into the room, looking as if he’d walked into the center of a storm.
Cephe Alexander,” he said hesitantly. “Everything Alpha Lucien said… is true. The funds were transferred, the elders signed of and its on record”
Alexander’s gaze turned sharp, “You told me this was temporary!”
was the Beta mumbled. “But we can’t breach a blood–sealed agreement. Not without consequences.
“Whe consequences? Alexander asked tightly.
“Triple the amount in restitution,” the Beta answered. “Plus, a formal public apology.”
The silence that followed was suffocating,
But it almost made me laugh.
For someone like Alexander, who valued his face above all, this was truly a disadvantage for him.
Alexander turned his fury back to Lucien. “You tricked us!”
1 user’s lips curled slightly. “You agreed, Alpha. No one forced you to sign.”
I stayed where I was, watching the two of them. One had thrown me away when I needed him most, and the other, despite all his coldness, had somehow always ensured I stood tall.
Alexander looked at me again. “Do you really want to stay here, Scarlett? With a man like him, who always knows when you We calculated?
1 chuckled. “Are you talking about yourself? Don’t lump him in with you.”
“Scarlets” he exclaimed angrily, “You are my mate! You are supposed to be by my side!”
Oh? Did Faye lose her charm? Is that why you’re here, seeking the so–called ‘broken Luna‘?” I said mockingly.
