Chapter 38
Scarlett’s POV
When I clicked the video and it loaded, my breath stilled as the first frame appeared.

It wasn’t an explicit threat from Alexander’s mistress–not in the obvious way–but it didn’t need to be. The image alone was enough to twist my stomach into knots.
I knew Faye had a few screws loose in her head, but I never imagined how sick she was just to get what she wanted.
Even if she didn’t need to tell me what she wanted, I knew what it was.
To get rid of me. To remove my influence over Alexander.
To completely own Alexander and the Crescent Moon Pack.
The scene took place in the Crescent Moon Pack’s communal hall. The Omegas were gathered–mostly women, some younger men–and there she was, Faye, right at the center of attention.
I could tell she had planned every detail of her appearance. Her dress was soft, pastel blue, her hair loosely tied back in a way that made her seem approachable. She sat among them, not above them, sharing plates of steaming bread and roasted meat
-as if she was a saint coming to rescue those Omegas from hell–knowing it was all part of her plan to drag me down.
I watched her laugh with them, lean in to listen as if every word exchanged was precious and worth treasuring.
Watching her like this made my stomach churn.
She was playing the perfect Luna in front of everyone–in front of me.
As if to show that even if I wasn’t present, anything I could do, she could do as well.
And then she began speaking.
“I know times have been difficult,” she said in that honeyed voice she used to coax and fool Alexander, “but I believe our pack deserves someone who genuinely cares for its safety. Someone who will never abandon it for… temptation elsewhere.”
A few Omegas glanced at each other. I don’t even know how the hell Faye got information about the bill I worked so hard to legalize–but that doesn’t matter now–what matters is that she was trying to ruin my reputation in front of the Omegas I had reached out to before.
I watched some Omegas frown, but others looked at her with uncertainty, as though they wanted to believe her.
Faye’s lip curved into that sly, delicate smile. “But if you ask me, I won’t do that, of course. Our pack is sacred and meant to be cherished and cared for. I only wish to serve the pack and make sure no one feels unprotected again.”
Although she didn’t mention my name at first, the implication was sharp enough to cut, and I was pretty sure the Omegas also knew who she meant.
Then she leaned in a bit, lowering her voice, forcing the group to huddle closer. “You’ve heard the rumors. She left us for another Alpha. She may try to come back, but… will she bring safety or more danger? I’ll leave that question for you.”
A young Omega woman shook her head. “I heard she was seen in Nightshade territory.”
Faye put on a look of regret, the perfect imitation of reluctant truth. “Yes. And I hate to break your ideal picture of her, bur what she was doing there was not just… political.” She sighed, placing her hand delicately against her chest as if this pained

her deeply, “She went there to offer herself to the Alpha in that territory–it must have been my fault if only Alexander and I didn’t love each other, if we weren’t fated–she wouldn’t have become that kind of woman…”
Watching and hearing her talk her nonsense in front of everyone made me grit my teeth. How I wished I could teleport to her side and knock some sense into her.
A mistress, a whore like her, daring to gaslight everyone into thinking I’m the slut while she’s a maiden?
Wow, just wow. I’m so impressed.
“I don’t want division in the pack,” she continued, lowering her lashes in false humility, “but you deserve a Luna who is here for you, always. Who will fight for you, not for her selfish gain.”
An older Omega man spoke up hesitantly. “And you think you can be that Luna?”
She smiled warmly, the picture of sincerity. “I only want to serve where I’m needed.
Her hands moved gracefully as she served another plate, and the camera caught the approving murmurs–the little nods from those eating her food. A couple of them even touched her arm as if she was already theirs.
Then she said the words that made my blood run hot.
“When she returns, there will be unrest. Perhaps even danger. But if she steps away, if she rejects Alexander and leaves the Crescent Moon Pack for good, peace would return.”
The screen went black for a moment, then she reappeared–looking straight into the lens–straight at me, as if she knew I’d be watching.
“Scarlett,” she said sweetly, “why not save us all the trouble? Reject Alexander, leave, and never look back.”
For what? So the two of you can have your happy ending after what you’ve done to me? Fuck no.
The video ended.
For a moment, the silence in my room was deafening. My reflection stared back from the darkened phone screen–tight- lipped, eyes flashing.
I hit the call button before I could second–guess myself.
She answered right away as if she’d been waiting for my call. “Did you enjoy my little gift?”
“You could say that,” I replied coolly, though my heart pounded–from anger.
“Then you know my suggestion is generous. If you don’t leave willingly, the pack will force you out. You better make your choice, or I will,” she said playfully.
I leaned back in my chair, keeping my voice calm even as rage curled low in my belly. “Then tell that to your faithful mate. yourself. If you’re that confident, go and tell him to reject me fully.”
For the first time, her voice faltered. “That’s not—”
“Not so easy, is it?” I cut in.
She recovered quickly, but I heard a crack in her composure. Of course, I knew Alexander better than anyone. That man was greedy. He wouldn’t easily let go of me even if I wanted him to.

I wouldn’t reject him yet–not until I got what I deserved and put them back in the places they belonged.

It doesn’t matter. If he won’t, I’ll make sure it happens. I’ll have every Omega, every wolf, against you. I’ll make you disgraceful. And when you come crawling back, there’ll be no place for you,” she said coldly.
I chuckled and twirled my hair. “You think a few warm meals and a sob story will buy their loyalty? Honey, truth always prevails
Oh, Scarlett,” she said softly, “it’s not about the meals. It’s about giving them what you never did–presence. I’m here. You’re not. That’s all they’ll remember.”
The line went dead.
1 gritted my teeth and angrily slammed my phone onto the bed.
Fuck that bitch.
“Scarlett?” Kathleen’s voice pulled me back. She was standing in the doorway, her brows furrowed.
“Is everything okay?” she asked.
I tried to steady my breath. “Faye,” I said finally. “That bitch is stirring up trouble in the pack again. Trying to make the Omegas believe I’m cruel and promiscuous while she’s the pure one–their savior.”
Kathleen’s frown deepened and a hint of anger flashed in her eyes. “That woman is too much!” She looked at me with worry. “Are you worried?”
“No” I shook my head firmly. “She doesn’t have the power she thinks she does. Let her play her little games for a while. Besides, I’ve been serving the Crescent Moon Pack for decades–some may turn their backs on me, but I believe loyalty still exists. They won’t be won over so easily with scraps from her table.”
But even as I said it, I knew there was truth to her tactic–appear often enough, speak softly enough, and people will start to trust you. And my absence was her advantage, giving her the chance to plant her lies and nurture them.
“What are you going to do now?” Kathleen asked.
