Get Back The Abandoned Luna (Scarlett and Alexander) novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Third Person’s POV

Crescent Moon Pack

Faye’s nails dug into the armrest of her chair as the report was read. The scout’s voice was too calm, too steady, as he spoke of the Nightshade wolves praising Scarlett.

They say she fought like an Alpha to protect them, the scout murmured. That she carried herself with honor. Some even call her the true Luna of Nightshade now.

The words scraped raw across Faye’s nerves. She shot to her feet, silk skirts swirling around her ankles. Enough!

The scout flinched.

Alexander, sitting across the chamber with a goblet in hand, arched a brow. ScarlettHis face was devoid of emotion, but his tone, as he rolled Scarlett’s name off his tongue, was soft and filled with affection, which made Faye’s expression twist.

Faye turned on him, fury contorting her face. You’re still fucking thinking of her?! I dare you, Alexander! If you still won’t end the bond that ties the two of you in the final session, I will kill her and kill you myself! Dare me! If you won’t make me the Luna, I’ll kill this child too!

His gaze dropped to her stomach. It turned colder. Then do it. Better they see you as a mistress than see me without her.

Those words snapped Faye’s selfcontrol. Her eyes widened in disbelief, lips parting wordlessly. Youyou’d rather keep her bound than make me your Luna?

Alexander said nothing, but his silence spoke volumes, making Faye both scream and laugh.

Good. Good. You still want to be with her! It’s always her!Rage flared in her chest, burning it away.

I… I just can’t let her goHis voice was low and soft, but Faye heard every word, her heart aching.

Desperation rose in her like a tide. She clenched her fists, nails biting into her palms until they bled. If he would not release Scarlett, then she would have to find another way.

One that would leave Scarlett with nothing.

Scarlett’s POV

The morning air was sharp and cool when I set out for the border inspection. Despite the cold, the warriors were already assembled in position. I walked to the front with Lucien beside me. His silent presence spoke volumes. It gave me encouragement. As he would saylead them all, and if you fail, I’ll be here to back you upwhich made my nerves fade, because I knew he was there, always.

The path curved along the ridge, opening into a stretch of grassland where our patrol lines had been reinforced. I raised my hand, signaling the first unit to spread out. They obeyed instantly, not a flicker of hesitation.

She’s so cool. I wish she would be our Luna. I hope our Alpha will hurry up and pursue her,one warrior muttered, too low

for me to have heard.

Another answered, She’s good at commanding. It would be a pity if her talent is buried.

Their voices drifted through the crisp air, unguarded and honest. I pretended not to notice, but warmth stirred in my chest. They were whispers, but not the kind meant to cut me down.

Lucien tilted his head slightly, catching the same words. His eyes slid toward me, silver and unreadable, but I saw the faint curl of satisfaction at the corner of his mouth.

See?I said under my breath as we continued along the trail. Whispers die on their own when they’re starved.”

They’ll never stop whispering,Lucien replied, his tone calm yet edged. But I admitthis morning, the wind seems to favor you.”

I cast him a sideways glance. That sounded dangerously close to a compliment.”

Don’t let it go to your head. His voice dropped, meant for my ears only. Your head is already far too stubborn for my liking.”

I suppressed a smile and concentrated on the warriors ahead. One called to me and pointed at a set of marks near the treeline. I crouched, brushing my fingers over the tracks.

Not rogues,I said. Too neat. A scouting party, no more than three wolves, passing through two nights ago. They didn’t cross farther in.

The warrior blinked. How can you tell?

The stride is steady. Rogues drag their paws; their scent scatters. These were deliberate.” I stood, dusting off my hands.

d word to tighten patrol on this sector. We can’t risk anyone testing our lines.

odded quickly, impressed. Lucien still watched me with that steady, inscrutable gaze, and I felt less pressured under it.

We were about to move on when the air shifted. The low growl of approaching engines rolled through the forest road. My pulse tightened. Even before the scent hit me, I knew.

The convoy of Crescent Moon wolves emerged in a neat line, their black vehicles halting just short of the ridge. Doors swung open, and at the center of it all, dressed in polished arrogance, was Alexander.

The warriors growled at once, hands moving toward their weapons. Lucien didn’t shift, but I could feel the rage coiled deep within him, thrumming, powerful and patient.

Alexander’s eyes swept the scene once before finding me. He smileda slow, mocking curve of his lips that knotted my stomach.

Well,he drawled, stepping forward with deliberate ease, what a fine morning for a patrol. I thought I’d join.

My wolves stiffened. A ripple of unease passed down the line. He knew exactly what his presence didhow it undermined me, unsettled my people. That was his aim.

I stepped from our formation, facing him headon. You have no

right to walk my borders.

His smirk deepened. He leaned in just enough that his breath brushed my cheek. Your borders? Don’t play games, Scarlett. You’re still mine. You feel it every time you breathe. You are still part of the Crescent Moon Pack, not Nightshade.”

The bond at my neck burned faintly, cruel in its reminder. I forced myself not to flinch, not to let him see how it dug beneath my skin. My voice was sharp as glass. You lost the right to claim me the day you chose another.”

His eyes darkened, but the smugness never wavered. You can deny it all you want. Your body remembers. I can see it in the way you hourself

Lucien’s voice cut through, cold as steel. Shut your mouth, Alexander. She’s not some thing for you to

ad lazily, only then acknowledging him. Alpha Lucien, How kind of you to host me.”

You’re not a guest,Lucien said flatly. He took a single step forward, and the air shifted, heavy with the force of his dominance. Even the Crescent Moon warriors behind Alexander shifted uncomfortably, their eyes flickering away. You’re trespassing.

Trespassing?Alexander chuckled, though his hand flexed at his side. I’m merely observing. Nightshade’s strength is…. impressive. One might even think you’re preparing for war.

Or one might think you’re looking for excuses,” I snapped.
