Chapter 79
Scarlett’s POV
My shoulder still ached where the blade had pierced me, though it had been cleaned and bandaged by Lucie while we were in the forest, then rebandaged again by the healers of the Nightshade. They said it would heal on its own and would probably take weeks or even months.
I was pulling on my cloak when Kathleen knocked softly on my door. Her face was pale as she entered, hand: clutching a sealed envelope stamped with the Higher Council’s crest.
“Your face is pale. What is it now?” I asked, leaning on the chair.
“Big news. See for yourself,” she said as she handed me the envelope.
I stared at it for too long before taking it. I thought this would be another council gathering, especially since I had received so many before, and I couldn’t remember how many I had attended, just so Faye wouldn’t use it to spread rumors about me not showing up.
The wax glinted red. I couldn’t help but gulp, especially as the crest was different this time; it held more authority.
My fingers felt heavy as I broke it open.
I didn’t know if it was the same as what I was thinking, but I couldn’t help but feel so nervous that I almost forgot to breathe.
As soon as I tore the seal open, the words swam in front of me, and their meaning was so clear it made me freeze.
‘Summons to Supreme Hall,‘ I read the words aloud, heavily. ‘Luna Scarlett from Crescent Moon and Alpha Alexander from Crescent Moon. You are hereby called to appear before the Higher Council for formal review and ruling on the dissolution of the bond. Tomorrow. Be there as early as you can!‘
The rest blurred before I could finish reading. This was what I had been waiting for.
My eyes fixed only on the three words. Dissolution of bond.
I couldn’t believe I had made it this far. I made it.
My throat tightened.
I gently folded the parchment, pressing it closed with trembling hands. At last. I could finally get rid of the title ‘Alexander’s Luna‘ for good.
I wouldn’t have to suffer the mark–the bond that tied us together. I wouldn’t have to feel his disgusting emotions anymore, or suffer whenever he slept with Faye.
“Little wolf?”

I snapped back to reality, hurriedly wiped away my tears, and faced him. “I received it.”
The corner of Lucien’s lips lifted as he walked toward me. “Yeah. You’ve been waiting for this. Are you ready?”
I swallowed hard. The words I spoke came steadily, but deep down I wasn’t sure of anything. I’m more than ready, Lucien.”
Lucien stepped closer, close enough that his warmth brushed mine, though he didn’t touch me yet. His jaw tensed, and I could feel him holding back. “Then we’ll walk together. We’ll face him together.”
I nodded.
Before I could reply, Kathleen cleared her throat softly to bring us back. Her gaze darted between us. “This won’t be a simple session. You know that, Sca. If Alexander resists… the council might drag this session on again.”
A sigh escaped me. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll just make sure he can’t do anything but dissolve the bond with me. I’ve been waiting for this. There’s no way I’ll let the opportunity slip away so easily.”
Kathleen reached for my hand briefly, her expression earnest. “Just don’t underestimate him. He knows how to twist the council’s words. And…” She hesitated. “Faye will be there. She’ll make a spectacle out of it if she can.”
My lips curved in a bitter half–smile. “Let her. She can scream all she wants—it won’t change what he did.”
Lucien’s hand brushed my elbow, grounding me. “We’ll handle them. Both of them.”
Crescent Moon Pack
“Finally!”
Faye’s shriek echoed through the Crescent Moon Pack. No one else was as happy to hear that the bond dissolution would be tomorrow, other than Faye, who had been waiting for this moment. She had heard the news about how Scarlett had protected the Nightshade warrior, how she had gained a reputation among them, and even that her own man had gone to see her!
She was furious upon hearing that, to the point that she even made a fuss with Alexander about it, questioning why he had gone to see Scarlett after they’d just finished making love. It was an insult to her. No matter what she did, she couldn’t compare to the weight Scarlett held in his heart.
She went as far as bribing rogues to kill Scarlett when Lucien wasn’t by her side. She thought she would finally achieve her goal, only for it to fail again–all because that damned Lucien always appeared to protect her.
Gods knew how many times she had sent people to kill Scarlett, but every time Lucien had intercepted her plans.
She had only heard that the person who had carried out her order to kill Scarlett had been tortured mercilessly by Lucien, and that he’d even sent a gift box to her bed, filled with the dismembered body of that
person.

Just thinking about it almost made her break out in a cold sweat. Her body trembled, and she suffered from constant nightmares about it. Of course, she hid it from Alpha Alexander, using the excuse of wanting to sleep with him because she missed him, when, in fact, she was too afraid to sleep in that room again, even though her people had thoroughly cleaned it.
“Finally! Finally, that wretch will free him and stop interfering in his business! And I-” She spread her arms, eyes gleaming. “I will be Luna at last! I’ll be his only woman, together with our child, who will be the heir of the Crescent Pack!”
“Don’t celebrate too soon. I won’t dissolve the bond with her.” Alexander’s voice, cold as ice, interrupted her celebration.
