Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Lydia nodded with satisfaction.
“That’s more like it. Doesn’t matter which city you go to-four million is enough for you to live very well.”
“I’m warning you, stop pining after Darius. Don’t get any stupid ideas.”
“Darius and I are very happy, he-”
Lydia suddenly lowered her voice.
“Darius, you showered so fast? I’m on the phone with a friend, give me two minutes, okay?”
My heart felt like someone was squeezing it-painful, tight, suffocating.
The next second, my eyes went wide in disbelief.
Darius was standing right in front of me.
Eyes bloodshot, disheveled, hair still dripping water.
I blinked hard. On the phone, Lydia was whimpering in a fake voice: “Darius, don’t be so impatient-”
Darius snatched my phone and hung up.
I stared at him like an idiot.
“How did you get in?”
“I have the key.”
Darius sighed, reached over to ruffle my hair, then leaned in closer and wrinkled his nose in disgust.
“How many days since you’ve showered?”
He glanced around at the couch area, his expression darkening further.
“And drinking too? Claire Morrison, you’ve really outdone yourself.”
“Getting four million didn’t make you happy? Look what you’ve done to yourself.”
He started pulling off my clothes without warning.
“Go shower.”
“Hey-you-we broke up, stop taking off my pants!”

“Who agreed to that?”
Darius wasn’t just stripping me-in seconds, he’d gotten completely naked too.
He dragged me to the shower, and when that warm water hit, my brain got even foggier.
“I sold you out!”
“That’s why I’m saying you’re an idiot. Do you have any idea how much money the Blackwood family has? And you took four
million?”
Darius squeezed shampoo into his palm and expertly massaged it into my hair.
“I really want to crack open your skull and see what the hell you’re thinking all day.”
“The Blackwood family is loaded. You marry me, become a rich man’s wife-your pocket money alone would be more than this
every year.”
“You moron, you grabbed a single egg and ran. What about the goose that lays golden eggs?”
“Turn around, tilt your head back, close your eyes.”
Steam filled the shower, making my eyes water.
“You’re the moron. You think marrying into wealth is that easy? Your family would never accept me.”
“Then we’ll figure out how to make them accept you together.”
“When you face problems, you tackle them head-on instead of running away.”
His rough hands moved along my shoulders and neck, sliding downward.
Darius pressed close behind me, his voice softening with that coaxing tone.
“Fight for it, and you could get hundreds more of those four million. You won’t even try?”
“You love money, right? If you love money, then fight for it. A deal with infinite returns-how can you just give up?”
“Fight for what-more humiliation? It’s not as easy as you make it sound!”
I pushed Darius’s hands away and turned around.
But I was shocked to see that Darius was crying.
His expression was nothing like his calm, controlled tone.
His face was pale, lips trembling, eyes full of careful hope and pleading.
My heart melted instantly.

“Don’t be like this.”
Darius held me tight.
“Claire Morrison, don’t leave me.”
“Whatever problems we face, let’s face them together, okay?”
