Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 381

Laura thought he was a truly thoughtful person for getting her a gift, even under these circumstances. Part of her didn't want to accept it, knowing it would be a painful reminder. But another part of her wanted to keep it, a final token of a connection that never was.

As soon as she stepped outside, the tears she had been holding back began to fall again. The ache in her chest was overwhelming.

Back inside, Luke let out a long breath, a heavy weight lifting from his shoulders. He was stunned that Laura had seen through him so easily. He had been so careful ever since Marguerite got engaged, keeping his distance to avoid any suspicion from her fiancé.

He picked up his phone and called Marguerite to let her know what had happened.

“Thank you, Luke,” she said, her voice filled with remorse. “I’ve been thinking about it, and I realize this wasn’t your fault. You were clear from the beginning. I was the one who kept pushing you two together.”

“Laura is inexperienced with relationships, and I was the one guiding her. I never should have gotten so involved.”

Marguerite felt she owed them both an apology. She had created this mess, and now they were both hurting. All she could do was say she was sorry.

After a few more words, they hung up. Marguerite sank onto the sofa, a wave of melancholy washing over her.

Leonard, who had been working in his study, had overheard the phone call. He came out and saw her sitting there, looking dejected.

“Still worrying about other people’s love lives?” he asked, his voice soft. “This has nothing to do with you. Laura was the one who came to you for help in the first place.”
