“Hope, I want you back on the team, okay?” Beth asked as our tears finally began to mellow out.

She looked at me in disbelief, as though she couldn’t understand why I was even asking. “Of course, it’s okay. In fact, it’s a hundred percent okay! I’m even willing to pay you more for your services. Did you know? Our injuries have decreased from last season. You’re really competent, Hope.”

“It’s not only because Levi insists you stay here,” she added, glancing at him with a knowing smile.

I smiled, my chest swelling with gratitude, ready to thank her over and over again, when the door suddenly swung open, revealing Lia and Aiden with wide, excited smiles on their faces.

“The good news has been spread!”

Beth sighed, placing her hands on her waist as the two of them walked inside, Lia immediately plopping onto the couch while Aiden carefully set a fruit basket on the table.

“What is this?” Beth asked.

“A surprise!” Aiden exclaimed. “We’re kissing up to our new boss in hopes of getting a better position and salary,” he said with a grin.

Beth shook her head and playfully rolled her eyes. The grateful smile on her lips remained for only a second before it quickly disappeared.

“Wait, what do you mean the good news has spread?”

Aiden smiled even wider. “I posted it on the team’s social media account.”

“What?” Beth exclaimed. “Why would you do that?”

We all chuckled as she panicked.

Aiden simply shrugged. “Who knows? Maybe a hot, young coach will take interest in the team and finally replace Dennis.”

“Gosh,” Beth muttered, massaging the bridge of her nose. “Maybe I should just fire you.”

“You won’t do that,” Aiden said confidently. “You love me too much.”

Just then, the door opened once more, revealing Forest in a breathless state. His phone was still in his hand, the screen displaying the post Aiden was most likely talking about.

“Beth, you’re the new owner?”

She let out a long, defeated breath. “I was planning on announcing it during a formal meeting,” she muttered under her breath.

“But yes,” she said more clearly. “Guess the word is out because of a certain someone!”

“Holy shit.” Forest laughed in disbelief. “Who would’ve thought? It feels like we’re living in the happy ending of a romance novel.”

I felt everyone’s gazes slowly shift toward Levi and me, making me frown in confusion.

“Why are you guys looking at us?”

Aiden chuckled. “It’s just as Forest said. Thanks to your love story, we all get to benefit from it.”

I couldn’t help but shake my head, unable to stop myself from smiling.

“You guys are being dramatic.”

“We’re really not,” Lia chimed in. “Let’s list everything that’s happened since you came here. Levi became less grumpy. The team became more cohesive.”

Aiden nodded in agreement. “Dennis and Delaney have no power anymore. Margaret has left the Glaciers, and Beth is the new CEO.”

Forest joined in with an excited grin. “And we’re on our way to our fifth championship! Should we keep going?”

My cheeks grew warmer with every word they said. I felt Levi casually wrap his arm around my waist, pulling me just a little closer. I turned to him, his face close to mine. His eyes flicked down to my lips, and at that moment, I knew he would kiss me right in front of them without any hesitation. Levi could definitely do that, so I looked away before that could happen.

“Well,” he said instead, leaning his head against my shoulder without the slightest bit of embarrassment, “it’s all because of Hope.”

“See!” Aiden exclaimed, pointing at the two of us. “I would’ve never expected to see this scene in my entire lifetime. If you told me a year ago that Levi would act like this, I would’ve jumped off a bridge!”

“Dramatic, are we?” I chuckled, shaking my head. “So what? I’m some kind of happy-ending maker?”

“You’re a hope-maker,” Lia corrected proudly. “Which is really fitting because your name is Hope. It’s like your parents somehow knew you were going to bring hope into everyone’s lives.”

I shook my head because it sounded ridiculous. Yet somehow, my heart still warmed.

They really saw me that way?

If someone had also told me that I would one day have people who cared about me this much, people beyond Freya and my own family, I would’ve thought they were lying, too.

Without thinking much about it, the words simply slipped out.
