As night fell, he walked over, silhouetted against the glow of the porch lights. His steps weren't hurried, but they prompted Grant to instinctively yank Sienna an inch closer to him.
"Lucas Lowery," Grant narrowed his eyes. "This is Gauthier territory. You don't get to throw your weight around here."
Lucas ignored him completely.
Stopping in front of Sienna, he glanced down at her reddened, bruised wrist. The angry mark stood out agonizingly against her pale skin.
His jaw locked tight.
"She is no longer your wife. You have no right to touch her."
Holding up his phone, he issued a flat threat. "If you don't let go right now, I'll post exactly how you're assaulting her online."
"Your little stunt already tanked the Gauthier Group's stock. I don't mind cratering it entirely."
Grant froze.
He knew perfectly well that if the stock plummeted further, bouncing back would be nearly impossible, even if the truth came out later.
If that happened, the Gauthiers would be totally at the mercy of the Lowerys, and his chances of winning Sienna back would be bleaker than ever.
He glared venomously at Lucas, then down at the woman in his grip.
Her face was completely impassive. Those eyes, which used to overflow with love for him, now held only a cold, dead stillness—like she was looking at an utterly irrelevant clown.
A suffocating wave of panic—the sheer terror of being entirely severed from her—gripped Grant's heart before the anger even registered.
He abruptly released her.
The release was so forceful it looked as though he had flung her hand away.
Yet Sienna didn't even stumble, as if she had expected nothing less.
She pulled her hand back without so much as a downward glance at the glaring red welt on her wrist. Turning on her heel, she walked straight toward the black Maybach.
Lucas pulled the door open for her, shielding the roof with his hand to keep her from bumping her head.
The entire exchange was seamless, their coordination blindingly natural.
The door slammed shut, cleanly severing Grant's line of sight.
"Put some ice on it." Lucas's deep voice shattered the quiet in the cabin.
Sienna simply murmured, "Thank you," before taking it from him. The icy plastic pressed against her wrist, finally soothing the burning sting.
The car coasted to a smooth stop outside the villa on the west side of the city.
"Get some rest," Lucas instructed, his eyes fixed on her.
Sienna nodded and pushed the door open.
However, barely a moment after she closed the front door to the villa and before she could even catch her breath, the doorbell began ringing frantically.
Assuming Lucas had come back, she opened the door, only to find Hunter Hale's panic-stricken face.
"Oh, thank God! You're finally back!"
Hunter barged in like a hurricane, checking her up and down. Seeing that she only looked a little pale, the manager finally let out a sigh of relief.
"I saw the news. You scared half my life away!"
