Sienna patted the back of Eleanor's hand in a comforting gesture, yet her eyes remained entirely devoid of emotion.
"Eleanor, don't upset yourself. It's bad for your health."
Her voice was soft, but it carried an undeniable finality.
"Thank you for loving me all these years. I'm sorry I can't be by your side anymore."
Eleanor's voice shook as she asked, "...You're leaving?"
Seeing her nod, the older woman grabbed her wrist with a strength that belied her illness.
"No! Grant was foolish, but I'm not. I run this family. I'll get your titles and properties back for you."
Madeline's expression shifted drastically in the background, though she didn't dare say a word.
Sienna shook her head.
"Eleanor, I don't want any of that." She smiled faintly, a genuine, albeit small, smile. "From the very beginning, that wasn't what I wanted."
Grant's expression wavered slightly, but he quickly re-masked it.
The things she wanted were things Grant could never give her.
Sienna now had less than ten days left to live.
She had no intention of wasting her remaining time rotting in this estate.
Eleanor tried to speak again, but Sienna had already stood up. She offered the older woman a deep, solemn bow.
"Take care of yourself... when I'm no longer around."
With that, she straightened up, refused to glance at anyone else, and turned toward the door.
Her retreat was absolute, leaving zero room for hesitation.
"Sienna!" Eleanor panicked, struggling to push herself up from the sofa. "Come back! Don't leave!"
She glared at Grant, who was still rooted to the spot, and screamed with all her might, "You bastard! Go drag her back right now!"
Grant finally snapped out of his daze.
Watching her slender silhouette about to disappear through the doorway, an inexplicable inferno surged from his chest, burning him alive.
He leaned down, his gaze terrifyingly predatory.
"Until the divorce certificate is in my hands, you are still my wife! What gives you the right to sever ties with me?"
"Blowing this out of proportion makes you pretty smug, doesn't it? Driving Lyla away, watching my family tear into me—you feel real proud right now, don't you?"
Sienna actually laughed at his utterly twisted logic.
Too exhausted to argue, she pulled hard, trying to wrench her hand free.
But the difference in their strength was vast. In his eyes, her struggling merely looked like she was playing hard to get.
Just as they were deadlocked, a voice rang out from behind them. It wasn't loud, but it made Grant's fingers immediately stiffen around her wrist.
"Are you done?"
Sienna looked back and realized Lucas had been standing outside the gates the whole time.
Leaning casually against a black car in a trench coat, his posture was relaxed, but the gaze fixed on Grant's grip was devoid of any warmth.
