Lucas was sitting in the armchair beside her, elegantly holding a cup of black tea. They looked so formal they might as well have been negotiating a business deal.
Hearing the commotion at the door, both turned their heads simultaneously.
Sienna's eyes were clear and serene; there wasn't a single trace of panic at being caught.
Lucas methodically set his teacup down, his gaze brushing past Grant before settling entirely on Lyla's dumbfounded face.
"Mr. Gauthier. It's been a while," Lucas greeted, his tone terrifyingly level.
Lyla was absolutely paralyzed. She pointed a trembling finger toward the second floor, her voice cracking as she demanded.
"You... you two were supposed to be up in my room..."
Sienna looked up at that, a perfectly calculated mask of confusion slipping over her features.
"Lyla, what on earth are you talking about? I don't understand a word you're saying."
Lyla felt as if she had just been dunked in a vat of ice water.
Grant glared at them. "Explain what exactly is going on here."
"Grant, you have to listen to me!" Lyla lunged forward, digging her nails into his forearm. "I saw Lucas kissing her with my own eyes! They locked the door! They must have been..."
"We must have been doing what, exactly?" Sienna's tone was stripped of all warmth. "You aren't trying to imply we were sleeping together, are you?"
"Lyla, if you're going to make up vicious lies, at least draft a script first."
"Even if we didn't have a place to stay, there are plenty of luxury hotels nearby. We aren't so destitute that we'd resort to doing something like that in your bedroom."
"Sienna!" Lyla screamed, her face flushed red with rage. "You bitch! You don't even have the guts to admit what you did!"
Grant's patience officially hit rock bottom. He stared coldly at Lyla raving like a lunatic, realizing for the first time just how wildly unpresentable she truly was.
"Lyla, are you quite finished?" he snapped, his voice lined with ice. "Spouting garbage over the phone, and now having a mental breakdown right in front of me."
"I am not having a breakdown!"
Lyla shrieked like a trapped animal, throwing herself in front of Grant. She clung to his arm as if he were her last lifeline.
"Grant, you have to believe me!"
Her voice shook with hysteria, tears streaming down her face, yet she remained utterly adamant.
