Ms. Zeller pointed to the paper shredder and the printer in the corner. "While you're at it, dispose of the backlog of scrap paper over there. And the printer is out of paper. The supply room is on the B1 level. Go haul it up yourself."
Sienna simply nodded, sat down, and started sifting through the files.
Less than five minutes after Ms. Zeller left, the vicious office gossip kicked into high gear.
"Hey, who's the new girl?"
"Mr. Gauthier brought her in personally, but from the looks of it, he doesn't seem to care about her at all."
A female employee with chestnut hair wandered over to get some water. Passing by Sienna's desk, she took a long, hard look and suddenly gasped.
"I know her!"
She rushed back to her seat, grabbing her coworker to eagerly spill the tea.
"It's her! The one who used to always come and deliver lunches to Mr. Gauthier! He was obviously completely disgusted by her every time, but she just kept showing up shamelessly."
"Her?" The coworker raised an eyebrow. "I thought she was someone with actual connections."
"What connections? She's just a desperate stalker. I guess when the lunch-delivery tactic failed, she pulled strings just to sneak her way into the company."
They made absolutely no effort to lower their voices. In the otherwise quiet office, every single word drifted clearly into Sienna's ears.
Her hands never stopped moving as she opened the next file and slotted it into the corresponding folder by year.
By noon, she had nearly finished sorting the first giant stack of documents. She stood up to head down to the supply room for the printer paper, but the moment she rose, her vision went completely black. She barely managed to grab the edge of the desk to keep from collapsing.
Her fever was still raging, and the two fever-reducing patches she had slapped on earlier were doing absolutely nothing.
She stumbled to the elevator and pressed the button for B1.
The supply room was tucked in the deepest corner of the basement. The lighting was incredibly dim, and a single box of printer paper weighed at least twenty pounds.
Sienna bent over to lift the box, but her core strength completely failed her. She picked it up, managed a few grueling steps, and had to drop it.
She leaned heavily against the storage racks, gasping for breath, before gritting her teeth, hauling the box back into her arms, and staggering step-by-step toward the elevator.
When she finally made it back to the office, she dropped the box next to the printer, her forehead slick with sweat.
Zoey rolled her eyes dramatically and aggressively slapped the folder down onto her desk.
"You're just the office grunt. If you won't even run a basic errand, what's the point of you being here? Just get the hell out!"
It was blatantly clear that if Sienna didn't deliver the file, Zoey would never leave her alone.
Sienna checked the time, picked up the folder, and stood up to head for the elevator.
Whatever. She was almost done with the tasks Ms. Zeller had assigned anyway. Delivering one document wouldn't take that much time.
When she reached the 32nd floor, the door to Grant's office was firmly shut.
Leo intercepted her in the hallway.
"Mr. Gauthier is in a meeting. Leave the document with me."
Sienna handed over the folder, turned around, and went right back to the administration department.
But the moment she sat back down, she froze—all the data she had painstakingly entered into the system had been entirely wiped out!
