Lyla Lennox clung to Madeline Gauthier's arm, the smile on her face instantly freezing.

Madeline's smile also faded. Her brow furrowed as her appraising gaze landed on Sienna Sawyer, filled with scrutiny and displeasure.

The entire floor went so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Remembering her unfinished sentence, Madeline continued, "Unlike some people, who just can't hide the stench of poverty in their bones. God, it reeks!"

She covered her nose, dragging out her words, but her gaze pierced into Sienna like a needle.

Everyone knew exactly who she was talking about.

Zoey Miller made no attempt to hide her smirk, looking on as if watching a theatrical performance.

Lyla gently shook Madeline's arm, pretending to be the voice of reason. "Mrs. Gauthier, Sienna is right here. She'll be hurt if she hears that."

Her sweet, delicate voice and intimate tone immediately confirmed everyone's suspicions.

Madeline patted Lyla's hand, her eyes full of affection.

"Our Lyla is just too kind. Some people don't know their place. If they insist on overstaying their welcome, they should be prepared for a reality check."

Every word out of Madeline's mouth felt like an invisible slap to Sienna's face.

Just then, the door to the executive suite swung open.

Grant Gauthier stepped out. He had clearly heard the commotion, and a suffocating aura of displeasure surrounded him.

His eyes immediately fell on the scattered documents on the floor, and then on Sienna, who stood in the middle of the mess like a condemned prisoner on display.

His scowl deepened.

"Grant," Madeline greeted him immediately.

"Grant," Lyla chimed in sweetly.

The surrounding employees began to whisper. "I'd heard Mr. Gauthier's girlfriend was stunning, but seeing her in person is a whole other level."

"I know, right? They're the perfect couple!"

"Who do you think you are? What gives you the right to order me around?"

Smack!

A sharp, resounding slap shattered the dead silence of the floor. Madeline had struck her hard across the face.

The watching colleagues gasped, the sound mixed with a few stifled cries.

Sienna's head jerked to the side from the impact. Five distinct, stinging finger marks rapidly bloomed across her luminous skin.

Her already frail body couldn't withstand the force, and she collapsed awkwardly onto the floor.

Madeline towered over her, glaring down with a viciousness that looked ready to swallow her whole.

"Who the hell do you think you are, talking to my son like that!"

Seeing her hit, Grant merely cast a chilling, indifferent glance her way, his expression completely unreadable.
