Sunlight slanted in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a glow over the thin base layer on her canvas, the air rich with the scent of turpentine.

This was the studio Lucas had arranged for her. It was fully stocked and so peaceful it felt like an entirely different world.

She was in the middle of mixing colors when the phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she paused, but the moment she answered, a barrage of curses blasted through the speaker.

"Sienna Sawyer! Haven't you humiliated the Gauthier family enough?"

Nathaniel's voice crashed through the receiver, wielding the absolute authority of a harsh patriarch, his fury palpable.

"Your family marched into the Gauthier Group to cause a scene, and now the entire internet is laughing at us! You joined our family eight years ago, and while you have zero actual skills, you're a goddamn expert at dragging our name through the mud!"

Sienna sat before her easel, her fingertips still stained with paint.

She stayed silent, which only infuriated Nathaniel further.

"Get online right now and issue a clarification. Tell everyone you have nothing to do with us anymore, and state that your family was trying to extort the company today. Do you hear me?"

In the past, Sienna had always dreaded taking Nathaniel's calls.

She used to fear his disdain, terrified he would scold her for lacking manners or that she would end up causing trouble for Grant.

But hearing him now, she felt absolutely nothing.

"Are you done?"

The line fell silent for a beat. "What? You think I'm wrong?"

Sienna had no energy to argue with him, tossing back a dismissive reply. "Of course you're right. You're always right."

"As long as you know!" Nathaniel snapped coldly. "Keep your family on a tight leash, and don't let me hear another word about this incident. Otherwise, I'll show you exactly what happens when you cross the Gauthier family."

The call disconnected.

Sienna placed her phone on the table, staring blankly at the screen for a moment.

She opened her browser and did a quick search, easily pulling up videos of the incident from multiple angles.

Seeing Lucas there came as a bit of a surprise.

But watching him ruthlessly talk back to Grant left her with a complicated swirl of emotions.

She called Lucas, and he picked up almost immediately.

"What's wrong?" Lucas's voice was perfectly even, betraying no sign that he had just been in a massive standoff at the Gauthier Group lobby.

"I saw the news online," Sienna said. "Samuel and his family went to cause trouble at the company. You took them away?"

Hearing those words, Sienna's heart gave a sudden, inexplicable lurch.

Chaotic noises erupted through the receiver.

People were shouting, slamming their hands on tables.

Then, Samuel's voice bled through, panicked and cracking.

"Mr. Lowery! Please don't hand me over to them, I'm begging you!"

Sienna's hand stiffened around her phone. Before she could process it, an unfamiliar voice echoed out.

The voice was deep and magnetic, yet it felt like cold vines silently creeping through the dark, wrapped in a terrifying aura of pure danger.

In a single instant, it was enough to make anyone's blood run cold.

"Take him away!"

Samuel's screams grew even more frantic. "Sienna! Is that Sienna? Save me! I was wrong, I'll never ask you for money again!"

Grasping at his final lifeline, Samuel shrieked out his desperate bargain.

"Sienna, as long as you save me, I'll tell you the truth! I'll tell you about your real parentage!"
