Grant's mind reeled, choked up so thoroughly he couldn't formulate a response.

The smirk on Sienna's lips deepened, but her eyes remained utterly frigid.

"Great acting," she commented, glancing back at Lyla as if reviewing a performance. "Since you're already down there, why don't you throw in a few more dramatic grovels?"

Lyla's face instantly turned white, a flash of humiliation crossing her features.

"Sienna!" Grant's hands balled into tight fists at his sides, forcefully suppressing his rage. "Don't push it!"

Just then, footsteps echoed outside the door once again, even more hurried than before.

Before Clara could announce them, several figures strode swiftly into the room.

Leading the pack was a young woman with a commanding presence. Dressed in a sharp designer suit, her long hair was tied back flawlessly. She carried a piercing, shrewd intensity entirely different from Lyla's.

It was the current head of the Lennox family, Rosalind Lennox.

Behind her followed the patriarch and matriarch of the Lennox family.

Lyla's eyes lit up the moment she saw them, as if her cavalry had arrived.

Her parents were definitely here to back her up.

The position of Mrs. Gauthier was finally going to be hers!

She scrambled up from the floor, not even bothering to dust off her dress, and stumbled desperately toward them.

"Dad! Mom—"

Her voice was soft and full of grievance, looking for all the world like she had suffered the ultimate injustice.

The next second, a solid slap landed squarely on Lyla's face.

The sharp crack echoed, even louder than the one Eleanor had delivered earlier.

Lyla froze in place.

She clutched her cheek. It already bore the red mark from Eleanor, and now it swelled even further.

Rosalind snapped through gritted teeth, ignoring her completely as her gaze shifted to Eleanor on the sofa. Her expression instantly softened.

She stepped forward quickly and offered a slight bow.

"Mrs. Gauthier, I am so sorry. My family is here today to apologize to you."

Her tone was sincere and perfectly composed. "The massive storm online ultimately boils down to Lyla's foolishness."

"She leveraged her acquaintance with Mr. Gauthier to stir up trouble at every turn. Not only did she drag the Gauthier family's reputation through the mud, but she also caused Ms. Sawyer a great deal of grief."

"This is a failure of discipline on the Lennox family's part. On behalf of my family, I want to formally apologize to you and to Ms. Sawyer."

Alistair and Beatrice also stepped forward, offering polite bows to the older woman.

Alistair spoke up, his voice heavy. "Mrs. Gauthier, I am deeply ashamed of the disgraceful things this girl has done."

"If you must assign blame, I hope you'll spare the Lennox family, keeping in mind that she was merely our adopted daughter."

"From this moment on, Lyla has absolutely no ties to the Lennox family."
