Jace and I rush into our condo, shouting Scar’s name at the top of our lungs. She is nowhere in sight. Panic is just beginning to rise in my chest when Hale opens the door to our place.
“She’s at her apartment. Come on. We just got back a minute ago. She’s in bad shape.”
We hurry to her place. The second I spot her on the couch, crying while her mother holds her, my heart finally steadies. She’s unharmed. She’s safe. When she notices us coming in, she looks up and springs to her feet. She runs straight to me, and I spread my arms wide. As I lift her, she clings to me completely. Jace follows close behind, gently brushing her hair back from her face.
“Hey, Princess, we’re here. You’re safe with all of us. Can I see the letter?”
She nods and gestures toward the couch. He presses a soft kiss to her and steps away. I hoist her a little higher and pull her in tighter. I rub slow circles on her back, rocking her gently like she’s a small child who needs soothing. I hum under my breath and kiss the top of her head. The sound of her sniffles twists my heart. What he did to her has completely altered how she sees him. She is truly frightened of him now.
“It’s okay, baby,” I murmur softly.
Her father walks over to us.
“We want to take her back to Spain with us,” he says.
I go completely still, and I feel her body tense in my arms. Jace snaps his head toward us.
“Why?” I rasp.
“We believe she’ll be safer there. Brian wouldn’t dare search for her in Spain.”
“She’s safe here with us. We won’t let her out of our sight,” Jace says as he steps back to our side.
“I know you don’t want her to leave, but-”

“No, papa. I don’t want to leave Jace and Milo, I can’t be away from them,” she says quietly.
“Scar…”
“No! I love them. I don’t want to be separated from them. They’ll keep me safe, papa.”
“We promise. She’ll never be alone. If she isn’t with us, she’ll be with one of her friends and their guys,” I say. She slides down out of my arms, and I frown. I liked holding her that way.
“If you’re certain, we’ll stay, but I do need to return to the office. Hale doesn’t want to be apart from us, so he’s coming as well, though I know he’ll stay. He loves Scar.”
“No. You’re not going to turn your lives upside down because of Brennan. He’s a coward. 1 overreacted,” she says.
“Don’t do that. You’re allowed to be afraid. I’m going to make some calls. The moment you step outside, you’ll have a bodyguard. You won’t see them, but they’ll be there. I’m not taking any risks,” her father says firmly.
I let out a long breath. I’m not too proud to accept help. The more people watching over her, the better.
“We’ll also speak with the Chief. What we need is to make sure Brennan’s face is burned into everyone’s memory. Baby, do you still have pictures of him?” I ask.
“No. I deleted him from my life. But I can get one. Give me a second.”
I watch as she picks up her phone. She dials a number and brings it to her ear.
“Hey, Mama Cici. Yeah, I’ve been better. No, no, my guys are amazing. Yeah, they’re taking such good care of me.”
I smile at her, and she returns the smile.
“I need a recent picture of Brennan. Yeah, he’s here. He left me a letter. It wasn’t outright threatening, but it wasn’t reassuring either. He’s getting a little unstable. I’m sorry. Yes, I know. I promise. Thank you.”
She ends the call. “She’s sending a recent picture.” A moment later, her phone chimes. Then both my phone and Jace’s buzz. I glance down and see the image she forwarded. I open it, my brow creasing. I’m certain I’ve seen him somewhere before.

“Hey, that’s the guy from the coffee shop. The day we bought Scar a drink. I remember he was the only other customer there when we were inside,” Jace says.
“Yeah, I remember,” I mutter.
“So that was about a week and a half ago. He’s been here that long,” I say.
“He must have been searching for her the entire time. In the letter, he says he found her. I’m going back to our place to print this photo. We’ll make a stack to hand out,” Jace says. I
nod in agreement.
“Are you sure you can’t stay until after Christmas?” I ask her father.
“I have to attend the company Christmas party. We’re surprising our employees with a substantial bonus this year. I have a hundred checks to personally hand out. It’s good for morale when the CEO is there to celebrate their hard work.”
I nod, though I still think they should stay.
“Our flight leaves Wednesday. Take care of her.”
“We will,” I say. “She’s our entire world.”
