If I have to sum up my life over the past four months, it would sound completely unhinged. I am more
than ready to finally unwind and breathe again.

“This is beyond absurd. This case should have been straightforward from the start,” Jace complains.
“Love, you know his legal team is desperately pushing for a reduced sentence and trying to label him as insane. Thank God his sister took the stand. Did you notice the pure revulsion on her face while she testified? She absolutely loathes him. The moment he told her he intended to make me his, no matter the cost, shows everything was premeditated. Now take a breath, focus on the birthday present I gave you, and try to relax,” I tell him.
Jace grins and lifts the leather bracelet with the large copper stone at its center up to his eye. Milo does the same, smiling as he raises the leather bracelet I gave him for his birthday, the one with the big red gem set in the middle. Together, they announce it is the greatest birthday gift imaginable.
“So damn sexy,” Milo growls. He drops his arm and drags me into him. “I fucking love you,” he says before bending down to kiss me.
“My turn,” Jace says. He tugs me out of Milo’s embrace and spins me toward him. His mouth crashes
into mine in a heated kiss. When he pulls away, he turns his head and Milo presses a kiss to his lips.
“Okay, let’s head inside. I want to hear the verdict and find out his sentence,” I say.
We enter the courthouse and settle into seats near the back. The trial stretches on for three months.
January is spent enjoying ourselves. We travel to Spain to see my parents and Hale. We speak with Dad about overseeing construction of the three–bedroom cottage we plan to build on our land there, so
we will always have a place of our own when we visit. From Spain, we fly to France and stay for a
week, then finish our trip in Italy.
The trial resumes three days after we return home. The first two months are consumed by evidence, witness testimony, and closing arguments. Rowan has absolutely no one willing to defend his character. Even his own sister stands firmly against him. His lawyers clearly know he is guilty, so they
attempt an insanity plea, but between his sister’s testimony, statements from our fire station crew, our accounts of his harassment, and my detailed testimony about the kidnapping and his declaration that

The jury takes time to deliberate, and now we finally receive word that they have reached a verdict.
As I watch him enter the courtroom, I sneer at the sight of him. His hair hangs in scraggly clumps and
his beard is wild and neglected. It is painfully obvious that all his muscle is gone. He looks thin, his
skin hanging loosely on his tall body. His eyes flick toward me and then lock in place. Milo immediately pulls me into his side, his arm wrapped firmly around me. Rowan takes his seat and turns to face the judge.
“Has the foreperson completed the count, and has the jury reached a decision?” the judge asks.
“Yes, Your Honor,” a man responds as he stands, hands a slip of paper to the bailiff, who then passes
it to the judge. The judge scans the paper and nods.
“Rowan Vance, please stand,” the judge says.
Rowan rises to his feet. He glances at me, and I hold my breath, bracing myself for the outcome. I
refuse to look at Rowan, keeping my eyes fixed on the man about to deliver the verdict.
“What is the verdict on the charge of stalking with intent to harm?” the judge asks.
“We find the defendant, Rowan Vance, guilty.”
“What is the verdict on the charge of kidnapping an adult woman with intent to harm?” the judge
continues.
“We find the defendant, Rowan Vance, guilty.”
The breath I have been holding finally escapes as relief floods through me. Both of my loves press kisses to the top of my head. My hands squeeze firmly around each of their thighs.
“Very well. Rowan Vance, you have been found guilty on all charges by this court and your peers. Expert testimony has established that you are of sound mind and not legally insane. The court is
greatly satisfied with this determination. For stalking with intent to harm and kidnapping with intent to harm, you are sentenced to fifteen years for each count, totaling thirty years in state prison, with no eligibility for parole.”
The wave of joy that surges through me is overwhelming. Jace and Milo pull me close from both sides. Tears stream down my face as the weight of relief crashes over me, knowing this nightmare has finally ended.
“Scar! I love you!” Rowan bellows.
