You have stayed with me through everything, and I am grateful that you kept me grounded. But I no longer need you. Farewell.
The past nine and a half months leave me laughing, irritated at times, but above all else, deeply and completely in love.: After Rowan Vance’s trial and murder, I finally sleep peacefully without nightmares
tearing through my nights. Summer manages to sell both Macs as well as my condos. We pack
everything up and ship our furniture and belongings to Colorado. Until all the details are settled, we
stay with Jace’s mom. One evening during dinner, she clears her throat and fixes us with a serious
look.
“Now that everything is moving forward, I want to host a wedding in the backyard. I’m thinking Junia and Joe can have it all set up by next weekend. Scar, I’ll need your parents‘ contact information. I want you to leave every detail to me.”
Jace turns to Milo and me. “Are you two okay with that?”

I look over at Milo, and he gives me a soft smile before nodding.
“Let’s do it.”
Two days later, Mama, Natalie, Summer, Maisie, and I head out shopping. Natalie promises to explain everything as we go. With every new detail she shares, my eyes nearly pop out of my head. Even Summer and Maisie blush more than once. I choose a stunning off–the–shoulder white mermaid gown, featuring a sweetheart neckline and delicate swirling beadwork covering the entire dress.
On the wedding day, the weather turns out perfect. The sun shines, the humidity stays low, and a gentle breeze drifts through the yard. The guest list is small and intimate. The guys from the station attend, along with Milo’s family, Jace’s sisters, and their two male friends. Hale is there, as are Mama
and Papa. Maisie, Summer, and Maren stand beside me, as bridesmaids, with Natalie serving as my maid of honor. Milo chooses Jace as his best man and asks Daxter, Dylan, and Gavin to stand with him. White pillars adorned with pink and white flowers line the aisle.
Papa and I pause, watching everyone move gracefully down the aisle toward the front.
“You ready for this, sweetheart?”
“Yes, Papa. I can’t wait to marry the man who loves me with his whole heart.”
“Scar, I’m so happy you found these two men. The love they have for you is unmistakable. I see the

devotion in their eyes. They look at you the same way Hale and I look at your mother.”
“Thank you. It means everything to me that you accept all of us.”
“Oh, honey,” he says with a chuckle. “How could I not?”

It’s our moment to walk. I focus only on Milo and Jace. Both of them are grinning from ear to ear, and
Milo’s eyes shimmer suspiciously with unshed tears. He blinks quickly as my father places my hand in
his. We exchange traditional vows, and to our surprise, the officiant we choose also weaves Jace into
them. The inclusion fills me with overwhelming happiness, and Milo clearly feels the same. When the
officiant announces that Milo may kiss the bride, he dips me backward, making me laugh in delight.
Afterward, we hold a smaller ceremony just for the three of us. I stand between Milo and Jace as the
officiant blesses our commitment. We all share a kiss as our friends and family cheer. The following day, I legally change my name again–to Scarlett Viktor–Sterling. Milo and Jace also hyphenate their last names to Viktor–Sterling. A few days later, we finally make our way to our land in Colorado.
Eight weeks after I move here, I begin to get violently ill. Every morning, every afternoon, and sometimes late at night for two straight weeks, I can’t stop vomiting. We assume it is a brutal case of the flu. When Jace calls his mom in a panic because nothing slows the sickness, she tells us we should either buy a pregnancy test or go see a doctor. All of us are stunned that pregnancy never once
crosses our minds.
Jace drives to the nearest gas station and buys every test they carry. I break into laughter when he walks back in holding eight different boxes. Still, I pee in a cup and dip every single one. The three to five minutes we wait pass in complete silence. Milo slips his arms around me while I sit on his lap, and Jace settles between my legs as all of us stare toward the open bathroom.
The instant our phone alarms sound, we jump up and rush inside. They hover over my shoulders while I lean forward to look at the tests spread out on the counter. Every single one reads positive.
Jace lets out a raw, primal shout and scoops me up. He carries me to the bed, carefully lowers me onto it, then crawls over me and collapses to the side. He rests his head against my still–flat stomach.
“What are you doing?” I laugh softly.
“Trying to see if I can hear our baby?”
“Jesus, Jace. We don’t even know how far along she is,” Milo says, chuckling as he lies beside him and leans over me to kiss my lips.
“That doesn’t matter, daddy. Papa will hear our baby,” Jace replies.
“Oh, so I’m daddy and you’re papa?”

“No, babe, you can be papa,” Milo says.
My stomach lets out a loud growl.
“See? The baby’s hungry,” Jace announces as he jumps up and bolts out of the bedroom.
“He’s going to be insane, isn’t he?” I ask Milo.
“He won’t be alone, beautiful. You won’t be lifting anything heavy anymore. Only light weightlifting at most. I miss your softer curves, but I love your tight little body right now. I can’t wait to see you round
with our baby.”
I start working out nonstop once we build our home gym, and even though I’m not as muscular as I was before the divorce, I regain some tone and lose my love handles. My ass fills out again, giving me
my legendary bubble butt back. Squats remain my strongest move.
“Fine, but I’m still walking the property and feeding the chickens. The goats and horses are yours and Jace’s responsibility.”
“Deal.”
When we move onto the land, Jace gets four chickens and two goats. He talks nonstop about wanting
cows–one for dairy and three for beef–but we haven’t found the right ones yet. He plants three apple
trees and an orange tree. He and Milo start a garden together, growing tomatoes, potatoes, corn, squash, pumpkins, watermelon, and zucchini. He is completely in homestead heaven.
Milo, meanwhile, wants horses, so we end up with three: a dark brown and black stallion, a white mare,
and a hay–colored mare.
