If I ended up in a relationship with one person or two or twelve, that was between me and whoever I was with. Society had never paid my bills or carried my heartbreak, so society

didn’t get a vote.

Still, a pattern showed up in nearly every article: throuples didn’t last, jealousy tore them apart, someone eventually felt left out.

That part mattered.

I opened my phone, went into my notes, and started building a list–questions I needed to ask Milo and Jace, points I wanted out on the table.

When my brain started buzzing too hard, I moved my body.

I scrubbed both bathrooms, swapped in fresh towels for the main one–Natalie’s. I made myself dinner and ate while I watched the clock crawl toward midnight.

I still had four hours.

So I took a nap, because once Natalie got here, sleep was going to be a rumor.

At the airport, I waited near baggage claim, scanning faces.

Natalie appeared like a whole event. Her black curls had been transformed into micro braids, and the colors threaded through them made her skin glow even more than usual.

“Girl, look at you,” I said, stepping into her space. “Turn around. Let me see. Those pounds

are sitting right.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Did you just call me fat?”

“Honey, please,” I said, laughing. “You used to be miss fit–and–muscular when you were training clients. Now you’re fit–and–curvy. You are not fat. You just look… softer. Still got a six pack?”

“No,” I admitted. “I guess I gained some.”

“Hey–no.” She held up a hand, already wincing at herself. “I didn’t mean it bad. I mean you look sexy as hell with curves. You don’t look so… hard anymore. God, I’m digging this hole,

“I’m taking it as a compliment,” I said, and let my mouth tilt into something cheeky. “Besides, none of the men have complained.”

“That’s what I like to hear,” she said. “Now start talking. Who are these men?”

“It’s not like that,” I told her as we walked out. “I’ve slept with three since I got here–six weeks. It’s been fun. And honestly? Fantastic. I’m friends with all three. And I’ve even

kissed a woman–kind of–and I let her touch me.”

Natalie stopped short and stared like I’d just switched languages. “Okay. You really are op

ening up.”

I nodded, and we kept moving.

In the car, I told her about Gavin, about Milo, about meeting Jace–everything except the

throuple part. Not yet.

“Gavin and I have backed off,” I said as I drove. “I think he’s dating someone. Maisie said he

had a date last night, and I haven’t seen him sexually in about a week. But we still hang out.

It was friends–with–benefits–no feelings. It worked.”

“And Milo and Jace?” she asked.

“Met Jace last night,” I said. “He’s incredible. And he and Milo… they’re best friends.

Partners.”

Natalie blinked. “Hold on. I thought you and Milo had sex. Didn’t he-”

“Yes,” I cut in. “Yes. I know what you’re asking. I’ll explain in the morning, with everybody

there, so I don’t have to tell this story five different times. How long can you stay?”

“As long as I want,” she said, voice crisp. “I quit the magazine.”

I nearly missed my turn. “What? Nat–what happened?”

“Jenson tried to tell me I couldn’t come,” she said. “No time off. But guess who magically

got approved?”

“Jolene,” I guessed.

“Skanky Jolene,” she confirmed. “She strolls in while I’m standing there and goes, ‘Thanks for the time off, Jenson,‘ and strolls right back out. I’d bet money she was lurking outside his office waiting to pounce.”

“I’m not taking that bet,” I said.

“So I stared him down,” Natalie went on. “And he just shrugged like I was nothing. So I thought, fuck it. I quit. Right there. Walked out. Then he comes chasing me, begging, because I’m his top writer and I make him money. But I’m not letting him disrespect me while Jolene gets perks for her mouth skills. I’m not doing that.”

“Damn,” I said, and meant it. “Good for you. Also… that means more time with me.”

We pulled up to my building.

When we stepped off the elevator onto my floor, Milo’s door opened–and then Jace and Milo were there, walking out like they’d been on their way somewhere.

They spotted me and changed direction fast.

Before I could even speak, they had me.

Milo grabbed my face and kissed me hard, like he’d been holding it in. Jace’s hand slid to my ass; he pressed in close and let out a low sound in my ear before he sucked the curve of it between his lips.

A whimper slipped out of me as I kissed Milo back.

Then Milo turned me, and my mouth was on Jace–different heat, same hunger.

When they finally broke away, they stepped onto the elevator. The doors started to close, and both of them stared at me like they wanted to pull me in with them.

Natalie’s voice came out like she’d been punched. “Holy fuck. That was the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. Who were they?”

“Milo and Jace,” I managed. “Milo was the first one to kiss me. Jesus. I think I’m having a hot flash.”

“You and me both,” she said, fanning herself dramatically. “I can’t wait for whatever you’re about to tell us at that cafe.”
