He cheated i chose two firefighters novel Chapter 47

Scar’s POV

Dear Diary

Alright. I’ll admit itI didn’t just misstep. I vaulted clean over the line. Jealousy had me seeing red, not

sense. So yeahwhat happened after? I earned it.

The first beat hit and the crowd came alive, but I locked onto Gavin like everyone else had vanished.

We caught the rhythm fast, starting with clean, classic salsahands where they were supposed to be,

footwork crisp, bodies syncing like we’d rehearsed it.

Then the lyric dropped-Don’t Cha Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me-and Gavin decided subtlety

was dead.

He yanked my dress away in one sharp motion.

When my suit was revealed, the reaction was instant: a wave of stunned swears, strangled noises,

sharp intakes of breath. I didn’t er blink

Gavin spun me until we faced Maren. She was sitting there looking wrecked with want. I rolled my hips

back, pressed my ass into him, and his groan carriedloud enough that other people heard it too.

He turned me again, dipped me hard, hauled my leg up onto his hip, and mimed fucking me like he

meant it. His face skimmed down between my breasts and up my throat, and thenbecause he’s an

absolute menacehe bit my neck.

A quick laugh. A slow lick over the sting.

Something in the crowd roared, but it barely registered. We finished to whistles and claps like we’d just

set the sand on fire. I kissed both his cheeksdragged it out on purposeand he returned it by tapping his mouth to the tip of my nose.

Maren was in a camping chair, clapping like she’d just watched a private show. I walked straight to her, bent forward, and the groans around us spiked. Then I kissed her on the mouth.

You two were obscene, she said, breathy. Will you teach me to move like that?

Yeah,I told her. Anytime.

Her lips brushed my ear as she lowered her voice. Natalie, Maisie, Summer, and some guy had to haul

one of your guys away. The other one’s right behind youarms crossed, glaring at your ass like it insulted his family. He’s pissed.

I gave a small nod to show I’d heard. I didn’t look back.

Instead, I shifted around her chair and headed for my beach bag. My dress was gonesomewhere, somehowand I wasn’t about to go hunting for it. I had a sarong I could use. Mostly, I needed the bathroom so I could breathe and stop shaking.

My heart still hurts.

I barely made it a few steps toward the beach bathrooms when I was suddenly yanked upward. The world tilted and I ended up slung over a broad shoulder like luggage.

A sharp smack cracked across my left ass cheek.

Then a hard, possessive squeeze.

I howled, furious, twisting enough to see who the hell was doing thisand of course it was Milo.

Put me down,I snapped. You don’t get to do this!

Oh, sweetheart,he said, voice low and dangerous, I absolutely do. You want to play games, Scar?

You want to make me and Jace crazy with jealousy and wanting?

I don’t even know what you’re talking about!I fought against him, pounding his back. You didn’t

notice me at all. You know what I noticed? You two with your new girlfriends. That’s what I noticed!

Each noticedlanded with another hit to his back or his ass. My eyes burned. I refused to let the tears

win.

He halted and set me on my feet. Confusion creased his face.

I seriously don’t know what you mean,he said.

That did it. My temper went nuclear.

Don’t you dare gaslight me,I screamed. I saw themthose two women draped all over you and

Jace, kissing you, jumping into your arms like they belonged there.

I watched understanding flick on in his eyes.

And still I kept going, words pouring out like poison.

I’ve been cheated on too many times. I thought you wanted me. Now I get itI’m just another fuck to you both. Well, fuck you. I don’t need this. I crawled out of one relationship with a cheating bastard; I’m not signing up for round two.

I turned and stormed off.

Scarwait. It’s not what you think,Milo called, hurrying after me.

I screamed. Not a cute shout. A fullthroated, breaking scream that tore out of me like something snapped.

Tears started falling before I could stop them. The sobs came up from deep in my chest, heavy and violent, and my legs quit on me. I dropped to my knees in the sand, shaking, choking on air.

That phrase.

It’s not what you think.

My crying turned jagged; I was starting to hyperventilate. Arms wrapped around me and pulled me in. Milo sat down behind me, settled me into his lap, and held on like I was something precious.

It’s okay, baby,he murmured. Shh. I’m sorry. Breathe with meyeah? Inand out. You’re okay.

His hand moved over my hair, then my back, steady and soothing as he rocked us gently side to side.

The storm eased, but every so often a hiccup would punch through. Milo didn’t stop touching me, didn’t stop anchoring me.

When I finally went quiet, he spoke carefully.

It really isn’t what you thought,he said. Those women? They’re Jace’s sisters. Joe and Junia.

They’re basically my sisters too. I’ve known them since Jace and started seeing each other. Since

Jace and I are partners, I’m like their brotherinlaw.

He paused, then kept going.

Jace is close with them. When his dad died, all of them moved back in with their mom to help her. The twins moved out after three years, but Jace stayed. He’s moving in with me this weekend, actually. We were hoping you’d come and help with the move.

Fuck.

I’m an ass.
