He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 159

159 Misunderstanding

“I was going to—” Eugene began to speak, but Bruce interrupted him quickly.

“Ms. Lewis, sorry to cut in, but we’re actually heading to the airport right now. We should be there in about ten minutes. Is it something urgent? I can come pick it up if that’s easier for you,” Bruce said, glancing briefly in the rearview mirror. He caught sight of Eugene’s face—dark, tense, and clearly displeased.

A shiver ran down Bruce’s spine.

“I’ll drive to the airport. Just text me your gate number, and I’ll bring it over,” Chloe said firmly before ending the call.

“Alright, Ms. Lewis.” Even though she had already hung up, Bruce responded politely out of habit.

The car fell into an uneasy silence. Even the driver seemed to hold his breath, careful not to make any unnecessary noise.

Bruce turned around with a nervous smile. “Mr. Rosewood, Ms. Lewis is coming to the airport herself just to bring you something.”

Eugene’s eyes darkened further. Without a word, he turned his gaze out the window, staring blankly at the passing scenery.

Bruce exhaled quietly, relieved that his boss hadn’t lost his temper. If Eugene had gotten angry, Bruce knew he’d be in serious trouble.

After ending the call, Chloe drove straight to the airport, her foot pressing a little harder on the accelerator than usual. The city lights blurred past as she focused on reaching her destination quickly. Once there, she found a parking spot and grabbed the gift box she had carefully prepared. The air inside the terminal was cool and sterile, filled with the low murmur of travelers and distant announcements. She made her way toward the VIP lounge with purposeful steps.

Bruce was already waiting by the entrance.

“Ms. Lewis,” he greeted her promptly and stepped forward.

“Bruce, I hope I’m not interrupting your schedule,” Chloe said with a small, apologetic smile.

“Not at all. Mr. Rosewood is resting inside the lounge. It’s a long flight—over ten hours. What did you bring for him? Should I ask him to come out?” Bruce’s head dipped slightly as he tried to steer the conversation toward Eugene.

Unbeknownst to them, Eugene stood on the upper level across the terminal, watching the exchange from a distance. If Chloe had glanced upward, she would have seen him immediately.

“It’s fine. Let him rest. More than ten hours on a plane is exhausting,” Chloe replied with a light laugh, handing the gift box to Bruce.

Bruce blinked, surprised. “This is…?”

“It’s for him. I chose everything myself,” Chloe said earnestly. “These are all high-quality items. Please tell him to take good care of himself.”

“Okay,” Bruce nodded.

Kidney Booster…

Seriously? What was she thinking? She’d gone through all this trouble to give him these? What exactly was she trying to imply?

Frustrated, Eugene grabbed his phone and dialed Landon. The moment the call connected, before Landon could say a word, Eugene’s voice came out low and dangerous.

“At Mistveil Manor, did you say something to Chloe?”

“No, nothing! What could I possibly say?” Landon laughed. “Ms. Lewis just told me to thank you, that’s all. She really cares about you. While you were in the treatment room, she waited outside the entire time. It was exactly like someone watching over a loved one, hoping they’d get better.”

Eugene gripped the phone tighter. “Landon, I’m giving you one chance to save yourself. Chloe wouldn’t have done this unless you said or did something.”

“Whatever I said, it was meant to help you win her over faster,” Landon replied, amusement in his voice.

“You have ten seconds.”

“Okay, okay! I might have exaggerated your condition a bit. I told Chloe the drug was really strong, and that someone as straight-laced as you had pushed yourself too hard—I worried you might suffer lasting effects,” Landon admitted, teasing lightly.

“Relax. When she heard that, she got worried. Seems like she really cares about you. Maybe this will speed things up between you two!”
