He Cheated I Rose Making Him Regret Everything (Chloe and Arthur) novel Chapter 201

**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**
**201 The Custody Gambit**

Eugene remained silent, his lips curling into a faint, knowing smirk that spoke volumes without uttering a single word.

As Landon observed the subtle exchange of glances between Chloe and Eugene, he couldn’t help but let out a resigned sigh. The world of high-powered executives and corporate sharks felt foreign to him. He was content in his role as a regular office worker, far removed from the cutthroat dynamics that seemed to swirl around him like a tempest.

“Today calls for a celebration,” Landon announced, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. “I’ve invited Mr. Snow to join us. After work, we’ll all head over to Eve Restaurant. Our generous boss has reserved the entire top floor for us, ensuring we can enjoy our evening without interruptions. Let’s also bring along some close friends to share in the joy. We’ll toast to the new partnership between our companies and the remarkable achievements of Four Seasons.”

Chloe’s face lit up with a smile, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. “Sounds good,” she replied, her voice warm and inviting.

Once their discussions wrapped up, the trio exited the imposing Cosmos Group building together, the cool evening air brushing against their skin. Landon trailed a step behind, allowing Chloe and Eugene to walk side by side, leading the way with an air of camaraderie.

As they reached the front of the building, Bruce was already waiting with the car, his demeanor professional and attentive.

Landon stepped forward with a broad smile, elegantly opening the rear door for his colleagues. “After you, my esteemed leaders,” he quipped, a playful grin dancing across his face.

Chloe glanced at the spacious back seat, then shifted her gaze to Eugene, who stood beside her. She recognized the mischief in Landon’s smile and felt a flutter of amusement at his antics.

Just as she prepared to step inside, a voice called out from behind, slicing through the moment like a knife.

“Chloe!”

Her expression hardened at the sound of that voice, an instinctive chill coursing through her. It was Arthur, the very person she had hoped to avoid.

He had the audacity to show up—what a relentless nuisance!

Chloe halted, turning to face the approaching figure.

Arthur was still clad in his work suit, as if he had rushed straight from the office just to confront her. Upon spotting her, he quickened his pace, closing the distance between them with an urgency that made her heart race.

Landon instinctively stepped in front of Chloe, positioning himself as a barrier between her and Arthur.

“Well, well. Look who it is,” Landon remarked, his smile friendly yet his eyes glinting with a protective sharpness. “What’s this about?”

“This is between me and Chloe. Stay out of it,” Arthur retorted, casting a dismissive glance at Landon before turning his full attention back to Chloe.

Landon shot Arthur another scrutinizing look, a chuckle escaping his lips before he followed Eugene inside.

As the car engine roared to life and began to pull away, the rear window rolled down, revealing Eugene’s handsome profile once more.

“Call me if you need anything,” he said, his voice steady and reassuring. The window then slid back up, and the car drove off into the distance.

Chloe stood there for a moment, the weight of Eugene’s words settling heavily in her mind. Did he mean that? Was he trying to stir something in her heart, or was he merely adding fuel to the fire that was already threatening to consume her?

“What’s going on between you two? Who is this Eugene guy? He seems pretty cozy with Landon from Cosmos,” Arthur’s voice cut through her thoughts, calm yet laced with an unmistakable edge of hostility. “Some people have hidden motives. You’re still naive in some ways—don’t fall for smooth talkers. What will you do when you’re left high and dry?”

“That’s none of your business. Let’s go. You wanted to talk, right? Where to?” Chloe countered, checking the time on her phone with a sense of urgency. “I have a celebration dinner tonight. I’m not wasting time on this. You have ten minutes. When the time’s up, I’m leaving.”

Annoyance flickered in Arthur’s eyes, but he managed to suppress it, knowing that pushing her would only make things worse.

She was angry with him, all because of that messy situation with Jennifer. Back then, she had misunderstood his intentions. Now that he had clarified things, it was time for them to have a proper conversation.

“I booked a table at the Garden Restaurant. Order anything you like. I reserved the top floor—” he began, but Chloe interrupted him, her impatience bubbling to the surface.
