**A Promise Hidden in the Quiet Rain by Adrian Hale**
**Chapter 320: Revealing Truths**
As a multitude of curious gazes converged upon him, Landon maintained a serene smile, gracefully pulling out a chair before settling in beside Zachary.
The air thickened with an almost palpable tension, yet within that charged silence lay a magnetic allure that was hard to resist.
Landon found himself genuinely intrigued, eager to witness Eugene finally display some signs of frustration or jealousy. Such moments were rare, and he could hardly contain his anticipation.
Meanwhile, Melinda was utterly captivated by Eugene’s striking features. She had never encountered a man who radiated such raw, handsome charm. The longer she stared, the deeper she fell under his spell.
Yet, it was impossible for her to ignore the unwavering focus Eugene had on Chloe. In that moment, Melinda felt as if she were rendered invisible, a mere shadow in the presence of their connection.
It was clear as day: Eugene’s interest was entirely directed toward Chloe.
The way his gaze lingered on her, filled with longing, was unmistakable.
Melinda’s mind drifted back to Chloe’s earlier phone call. The voice on the other end had undoubtedly belonged to the man now seated across from her.
And Chloe had agreed to meet him without a moment’s hesitation. Did that imply a mutual attraction?
Coming here had certainly been the right choice. Melinda felt a surge of excitement; she needed to find a way to share this tantalizing revelation with Blaine.
“Aren’t you going to introduce us?” Melinda asked, her smile bright and inviting as she turned her attention toward Eugene.
In response, Eugene simply lifted his glass slightly and said, “Eugene.”
“Wow, what a fantastic name!” Melinda exclaimed, laughter bubbling forth. She leaned in closer to Chloe, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Chloe, this gossip is absolutely delicious! Is this the lucky guy…?”
She paused, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Is he?”
Chloe’s expression turned slightly sour as she thrust a skewer of grilled meat into Melinda’s hand. “You ordered this yourself. Can’t it keep you quiet?”
“Chloe, come on! I came all this way just to see you. We’re sharing a room tonight, remember?” Melinda pouted playfully, then shot a wink at Robert. “Robert, tell her—I’m always being bullied. It’s so unfair!”
“Oh please. You’re really laying it on thick. It’s giving me secondhand embarrassment,” Robert remarked, rolling his eyes with exaggerated flair.
“Really? I think I’m doing splendidly! I should’ve pursued acting. The Oscars owe me a trophy,” Melinda declared, her grin wide. In a heartbeat, she straightened her posture, adopting a serious demeanor as she turned to Eugene. “Hi, I’m Melinda—Chloe’s like a sister to me. It’s a pleasure to meet you!”
Eugene offered a faint smile in return. “Likewise.”
Landon felt utterly deflated.
He suddenly grasped how Arthur must have felt, equally oblivious to the truth.
Melinda! How had he overlooked her? The sought-after model from Oskary, famously dubbed “The Money Walker” because every step she took on the runway was worth a fortune.
He had even seen her gracing the cover of magazines. And here she was, right in front of him, while he had been too absorbed in Eugene’s romantic entanglements to notice.
How utterly embarrassing.
Was that bump on his head the universe’s way of mocking him?
“Sorry about that,” Landon said as he settled back into his chair, attempting to regain his composure. “Speaking of the negotiation meeting—correct me if I’m wrong—but don’t you only have forty-eight hours left until the deadline?”
Chloe’s expression shifted slightly, a hint of tension creeping into her features.
“Forty-seven hours and five minutes, to be exact.”
Landon leaned in, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “You should be aware—someone’s been flexing their influence. Many of the parties interested in partnering with the Lewis Group are now too intimidated to proceed. I’m afraid that when the deadline arrives, you might find yourself without any options.”
