Eugene responded calmly, “Not only was I present, I was the one who personally recorded the video.”
Hearing this, Frank’s eyes widened in recognition. He stared at Eugene for a long moment before letting out a heavy sigh. “I do not fully understand Charles‘ reasons for such arrangements, but given your personal confirmation of your presence, I accept that the will Chloe has presented is authentic.”
“Frank!”
“Mr. Payne!”
Exclamations of disbelief rippled through the room. No one could fathom why Frank would change his position so readily.
Frank held significant stature and was a respected elder among Capaville’s established families. Many couldn’t even secure an audience with him. Yet here he was, accepting this man’s word without hesitation.
Just who was this Eugene?
Madilyn, seeing Frank pivot so decisively to validate Chloe’s version of the will, was livid.
“Frank, by saying this, are you not concerned that Charles will find no peace?” Madilyn’s voice turned icy. “Chloe and Eugene are clearly colluding. Who knows the true extent of their association? Your statement makes me wonder if you are part of their scheme.”
“Madilyn, have you not caused enough discord?” Frank retorted, his own anger rising. “The questions that should be asked are directed at you. Is what Ms. Lewis alleges true?
“Was Charles‘ death connected to you? Was his will tampered with by your hand?” Frank demanded, his voice thick with accusation.
Witnessing Frank turn against her in an instant, Madilyn’s expression darkened further. She tugged sharply at Arthur’s sleeve. “Arthur, do you see? Chloe is remarkably skilled at manipulation. With a few well–placed words, even Frank has been swayed to her side.”
Arthur was jolted back to the present, his gaze drifting blankly over the scene. He saw Eugene standing protectively beside Chloe. They looked like a perfectly matched pair, a vision that stirred a profound and painful envy within him.
“Mom, please. Let us proceed with Grandfather’s service. We should not disrupt the planned timing any further,” Arthur said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. He was weary of the relentless conflict between Chloe and Madilyn.

Hearing Arthur’s words, Madilyn scoffed in derision. “Arthur, are you now defying me as well?”
“Mom, I am not.”
“Then get out of my way, you useless boy,” Madilyn snapped, shoving Arthur aside. She strode forward, her anger palpable. “Are all of you here solely to provoke chaos? The Myers family has done nothing to warrant this. Now, with Charles gone, you insist on obstructing his peaceful departure. Are you not afraid of the consequences?”
The room fell into a tense silence. All attention was fixed on Madilyn’s outburst.
“Chloe, are these all your so–called witnesses? This is it? These individuals are all personally connected to you. They are hardly impartial. If this qualifies as evidence, then I have witnesses of my own.” As she spoke, Madilyn pulled out her phone and dialed Joel.
“Is the will notarization complete?” Madilyn asked, her tone dripping with authority. She switched the call to speakerphone, casting a triumphant and dismissive glance toward Chloe.
