Chapter 560 Failure and Fall
When Vincent said he wouldn’t lay a finger on anyone, that was the end of it.

Whatever he personally committed to, he would see through, no matter what it took. When it came to keeping his word, she had to admit she respected that about him.
He was a man of principle–just a little unpredictable in some ways.
Footsteps approached, and Chloe glanced toward the sound. In the next moment, her calm expression. turned to ice.
Jennifer had actually come back.
Accompanied by two associates, Jennifer–wearing Chloe’s face–arrived on the scene.
She looked somewhat disheveled; beads of sweat still glistened on her forehead, a clear sign she’d rushed over in a hurry.
Vincent stood where he was, his eyes fixed only on Chloe. He showed no reaction to Jennifer’s return, not even bothering to look her way.
Jennifer scanned the area, her gaze briefly brushing past Chloe before turning toward Vincent.
“Master, I’m sorry. I failed the assignment you gave me. Eugene saw right through me–he realized I wasn’t the real one.” Jennifer kept her head down, forced to admit her failure. She had no clue when • Eugene had figured it out. All she knew was that the wedding she’d been counting on had completely fallen
apart.
She never got to meet the man she was supposed to. Instead of a future with him, all that waited for her was being locked away. She’d had no choice but to flee Eugene’s reach. Thankfully, at the last moment, Vincent’s people had shown up, brought her back, easily slipped past Eugene’s men, and smoothly returned her to the island.
Now, facing the intimidating presence of Vincent, Jennifer knew her only chance was to rely on this man. Since he’d sent someone to retrieve her, it meant she still had some use, right?
Vincent paid no attention to Jennifer. He simply kept his eyes on Chloe and said evenly, “I lost. Congratulations–your man passed the test. That calls for a celebration, doesn’t it? So, what would you like to do to mark the occasion? Set off fireworks tonight, or throw an especially lavish dinner party?
Chloe offered a faint, unimpressed smile, ignoring Vincent’s remarks, and turned her attention to Jennifer
instead.
Meeting Jennifer’s eyes, Chloe let out a soft, cold laugh.
“Jennifer, I warned you from the start. Pity you never caught on. You were lucky enough to get a second shot at life–why don’t you learn to appreciate it?”
Chloe sighed, looked away, and walked in Vincent’s direction.
Vincent stayed where he was, watching Chloe approach. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly; he

almost spread his arms for an embrace.
But then Chloe said coolly, “Excuse me.”

Vincent glanced behind him–there lay the comic books Chloe had been reading. She was only coming to retrieve them, not walking toward him at all.
From start to finish, her attitude toward him hadn’t softened one bit. If anything, it had grown colder.
Vincent stepped aside gracefully, making it easier for Chloe to pick up the books.
“Thanks,” Chloe said briefly. She moved forward, collected the comics, and headed upstairs without another look back.
