Especially since this was the first of the three tasks they had agreed on–it was meant to push her limits.
“I don’t care how you do it–schemes, tricks, whatever it takes. You have one week. After that, Nance returns to his country.” Vincent’s tone was detached, almost icy. “Eat if you’re hungry. This is prepared by their executive chef. Not my doing.” With that, he rose smoothly and walked out without a backward glance.
Chloe stayed where she was, silent.
After Vincent left, the dimmed lights brightened gradually, revealing the carefully arranged dishes on the table.
She studied the spread, a slight frown touching her features.
Nance’s visit was only seven days long. How was she supposed to get her hands on that priceless gem in such a short time?
Settling gracefully into a chair, Chloe finally allowed herself to acknowledge her hunger. It had been a long day, and as long as she didn’t have to look at Vincent’s face, she was more than willing to enjoy a decent meal.
Pulling out her phone, she quickly pulled up Nance’s itinerary for the week.
It didn’t take long for something to catch her eye. On the second day of his visit, he was scheduled for an in–depth exchange with a private research team–and the event was being held right in Bingham Mansion.
What a coincidence.
A faint smile crossed her lips at the thought.

Riverville Prime Residence.
After Charles‘ funeral, Eugene had shut himself in his room with Robert. The two of them–one a grown man, the other just a kid–seemed to understand each other in quiet solidarity, neither emerging for hours.
Landon glanced at the food laid out on the dining table. It had been most of the day, and neither of them had touched a thing. Even someone with iron will would’ve cracked by now.
Sure, Eugene might have been able to tough it out, but Robert was still just a boy.
A server came by, clearing away the cold dishes and replacing them with fresh ones.
Seeing that, Landon couldn’t just sit back any longer. He got up and headed toward the bedroom door, ready to knock. If anything happened to those two on his watch, he’d never hear the end of it.

He raised his hand to knock firmly, but just then, the door opened from the inside.
Eugene’s eyes met his. Landon offered an uneasy grin. “Afternoon.”

Eugene stood there with a grim expression. He gave Landon a cool, dismissive glance before walking traight past him. Robert trailed behind, offering Landon a quick nod and muttering, “I’m starving.”
Landon stepped aside promptly. Watching the two make their way to the dining table, he finally let himself relax. As long as they were eating, things would be okay.
Eugene and Robert were genuinely hungry. They took their seats and began eating without ceremony, not bothering with formalities.
Landon thoughtfully brought over glasses of water for each of them.
After a while, they both slowed down. Robert reached for a laptop nearby and started tapping away again.
Eugene watched intently over his shoulder. Landon leaned in curiously but couldn’t make heads or tails of what was on the screen–it was all lines of code, completely foreign to him.
Finally, Robert stopped typing and looked up at Eugene. “Found it, but… it’s complicated.”
Eugene studied the screen, his expression turning chilly.
Seeing his reaction, Landon leaned in even closer, dying to know what was going on.
