Carolyn could sense something wasn't right. She lifted her gaze and locked eyes with Vincent. The moment she took in his imposing presence, she froze—unable to even tell whether the person before her was a man or a woman.
His delicate, almost ethereal beauty surpassed that of any woman she had ever seen, yet the aura he carried was as commanding and arrogant as a king's.
Who was this?
"Carolyn, you're quite the actress... too bad you're wasting your talent in all the wrong ways."
His voice was cold and clear, cutting through the silence and sending a shiver down her spine.
Even disguised like this, he had recognized her instantly.
Carolyn stood motionless, her mind racing with questions as she stared at this stranger.
Once she processed that he was indeed a man, she noticed how the atmosphere around them had shifted—the bodyguards had stiffened into postures of utter deference, not daring to meet his eyes.
It was obvious who held the real power here.
"Who are you people? What do you want from me?" She forced her voice to remain steady, feigning confusion.
There was no way anyone could know it was her beneath this disguise—maybe his use of her name was just a coincidence. Even if he did know, she couldn't admit to anything. Not yet.
"Isn't it exhausting, keeping up the act?" Vincent closed the distance between them and came to a stop, his gaze turning to ice. "Now that you're in my hands, there's no point in pretending anymore. Today, your luck runs out."
Carolyn's heart dropped.
She could see her own fear reflected in his eyes, but it didn't seem to bring him any satisfaction. This was about justice—deserved justice. He would hand her over to Chloe personally and let her decide what came next.
Eugene hadn't been able to find Carolyn, but Vincent had. And he would deliver her right to Chloe's doorstep.
She'd be grateful, he was sure of it.
A bodyguard brought over a sleek new chair and placed it behind Vincent.
He sat down gracefully, crossing one leg over the other, his eyes never leaving Carolyn.
"When Charles died right in front of you," he said coolly, "did it ever cross your mind that you'd pay for what you did?"
Carolyn's breath caught. How could he possibly know about that?
So this man was here on Chloe's behalf. She had truly walked into a trap this time.
