Eugene shot him a look and dropped his voice low. "Spill it."
"Word is, for tonight's event, Ms. Lewis is bringing a plus-one. A male date." Bruce didn't dare add the rest—and it's not you. He'd only just caught wind of it himself and figured Eugene should know.
Chloe showing up with another man—who that might be was worth looking into. And the timing felt... deliberate. A little off, somehow.
Bruce watched Eugene's expression tighten. The shadows gathering on his face said enough—he was already simmering.
"You sure about that?" Eugene paused, then pressed again, a trace of doubt in his tone.
Bruce didn't answer aloud, just gave a slight nod.
Eugene fell silent, his gaze fixed on the Silverash file spread across the desk, his expression turning unreadable. He was turning something over in his mind—what exactly, nobody could guess.
Bruce stood quietly off to the side, waiting. A long stretch of time passed without further direction.
Just as Bruce began to worry that Eugene might boil over, Eugene's voice cut through the quiet.
"Simon Hale—the ceremony host—he reached out to Cosmos Group a while back, didn't he?"
Bruce nodded. "He's been asking to meet for dinner. Wants to talk investments. You turned him down before."
"Get him on the phone. Tell him I'm free tonight. Set something up." Eugene's instructions were clipped, direct.
"Understood. I'll handle it right away."
Bruce turned and stepped out briskly. By the time he reached the hallway, he was already dialing Simon.

The day of the awards ceremony arrived.
Chloe showed up at the hotel early. The escort car pulled up right on schedule—but Vincent wasn't in it.
"Clo, the Master said to go ahead without him. He's running late with a custom fitting for his tux. Told me to tell you to enjoy yourself."
Chloe didn't argue. She'd already gotten a text from Oralia—she was waiting in the stylist's suite, where a top-tier glam team had been booked. They were planning coordinated looks.
Chloe wasn't in the mood to linger. She just wanted to get the evening over with.
This was a huge night for Oralia, but for Chloe, it carried a different weight.
Vincent picking now to play games... Whether he showed up on time hardly mattered to her. What really nagged at her was whether she'd run into Eugene tonight.
He hadn't reached out once these past few days. There was no way he didn't know she'd be at Oralia's ceremony.
