The next second, Chloe looked as if she was about to pull the trigger again and end everything between her and Vincent.
"My dear Clo-Clo, have you forgotten our agreement?" Vincent stopped what he was doing and looked at Chloe calmly. "I told you that you could not have anything to do with that irrelevant man anymore. Did you keep your word?"
Chloe said nothing.
"We had an agreement, but you were the one who broke it first. Since you didn't keep your promise, why should you force me to keep mine?" Vincent raised his eyes, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "So what if I killed him? The fact that he didn't die on the spot only proves he was harder to kill than expected."
Hearing Vincent say it so casually, Chloe finally understood.
From the very beginning, he had wanted Eugene dead.
Thinking of Eugene still lying in the hospital, facing the possibility that he might never wake up, rage instantly flooded Chloe's chest.
"I told you that you were not allowed to touch anyone around me. Anyone!" Chloe stared at Vincent, the fury in her eyes turning cold and heavy.
Without any hesitation, she fired.
The gunshot rang out.
Vincent remained seated, completely unharmed.
He lifted his eyes and looked at Chloe, a little surprised.
She had actually fired.
The bullet shot past his ear and tore into the couch beside him.
The sudden sound alarmed the bodyguards who had already withdrawn. The moment the gunshot rang out, four or five bodyguards rushed in one after another, their guns aimed at Chloe.
"Master, are you all right?"
With their guns pointed at Chloe, one pull of the trigger would be enough to end her life.
"I said, all of you, get out. No one needs to come in here and disturb us," Vincent roared.
The men had been staring tensely at Chloe, silently judging whether they could subdue her if they were forced into a direct fight.
But their master's order was right in front of them.
They had no choice.
They exchanged glances, lowered their guns, and quietly withdrew again.
The room fell silent once more.
Chloe stood where she was.
She could have easily shot Vincent just now.
But she had not done it.
She had fired the gun to draw the bodyguards in. When their guns were aimed at her, she had wanted them to end it.
But Vincent's men obeyed him too completely. Not one of them fired.
They all withdrew.
Chloe casually threw the gun onto the floor.
Vincent's eyes darkened as he watched her movements.
He knew it.
Her purpose today had never been to take his life.
She had deliberately come here to provoke him.
Did she want his men to kill her?
Was she doing this for that man?
For Eugene?
Did she want to follow him even in death?
