Chapter 5
Anderson frowned and looked at his assistant, Charles Green, unhappily, “How could that be? Stop freaking out.”
He then turned and looked at me with a disappointed gaze. He began berating me, “Yvonne, I don’t understand this tantrum. When will you change that spoiled temper of yours?
“The Sherman family is no longer the same family that could back you up no matter what, and the Graham family isn’t as easy to manipulate as we used to be.”
Anderson clearly hadn’t taken Charles’ words to heart at all. He even thought I was just throwing a tantrum just to get his attention.
Charles’ hand shook as he showed him something on his tablet. “There’s… There’s also a notification from the bank. Our funding has been completely cut off. T-They said the Sherman family demanded it.”
Anderson’s arms tensed up around Sophie. He then turned back to me and looked at me in disbelief. “Yvonne, you…”
I calmly cut him off. “I told you that you had three days to handle it, but I guess you chose a different route.”
His face slowly became patchy and pale. However, he still held his ground and scoffed coldly.
“Yvonne, do you really think you can scare me with that? You can’t control the Graham Group like you used to. You were overseas for three years.
“You probably don’t even know who the real head honcho of Jeanton is now, right?”
I scoffed lightly. Zachary stepped forward and passed me a sheaf of documents. I flipped through them and began reading them out loud plainly, as if I were simply reading a weather report.
“Last year, Graham Group got its first proper funding through a project in Sothbrock City that the Mortner family introduced them to.
“In June, the Mortner family yet again helped Graham Group break into the overseas market. In September, Graham Group was deemed eligible for government funding through connections made through the Mortner family.”
I flipped through all of the pages before looking up at him. “Do you want me to continue, Mr. Graham?”
“Do you really think you’re invincible now that you managed to make some connections with the Mortner family?”
I tossed the stack of documents on the ground at his feet. “Anderson, you’re clueless. I never fully relied on just the Sherman family. After all, my grandfather is from the Mortner family.”
Anderson’s eyes widened. Everybody in Jeanton knew the Mortner family.
They were the true big dogs of the business world in Jeanton. They moved quietly, but they were the ones who had countless families in the palm of their hand.
Anderson’s voice was hoarse as he stammered, “Y-You never told me.
“Did I need to rely on my background to make you love me?” I said with a chuckle as my eyes
filled with tears.
“Three years ago, you said you loved me for me, not because of my wealth. I trusted wealth. I trusted you. Now, since Sophie is the one you love, I’m sure it’s not because of her background, right?”
Anderson opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Sophie suddenly screamed, “Yvonne! Do you think you can do anything you want just because you’re rich? I’m the one Anderson truly loves! This is what true love looks like!”
I looked at her skin, which was covered in tattoos. The black ink of the words on her skin stood out like snarling creatures against her flesh.
“True love?”
repeated quietly. “If that’s the case, I hope your love can withstand this.”
I nodded at Zachary, who took out his phone. He made a call and said simply, “Begin.”
Anderson’s phone immediately began ringing loudly. He hurriedly picked up and heard a panicked voice coming through the speaker. “Mr. Graham! Our shares have crashed!
Someone’s selling our shares for dirt cheap.
“Our market share price has gone down by 30%! Also, the tax bureau called! They’re suddenly asking to check our records from three years ago!”
