He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 117

To make matters worse, ever since Lyra was hired, the workload in the cardiology department had skyrocketed.

It wasn't exactly her fault, but they were short-staffed to begin with. Previously, Seraphina and Dr. Wallace had split the pressure perfectly. Now that Seraphina was gone, the entire burden had collapsed onto Dr. Wallace's shoulders.

A few days ago, Dr. Wallace had casually mentioned wanting to go abroad for further training.

The Director wasn't an idiot. He knew exactly what that meant. Dr. Wallace was burnt out, buckling under the pressure, and looking for an escape hatch.

He completely understood the doctor's desire to flee. But if Dr. Wallace left, Metropolitan General would have to scramble to hire a new cardiologist. That took time. Training them on hospital protocols took even more time. Who was going to keep the patients alive while they figured all that out?

Thinking about all of this made the Director's regret compound even further.

Lyra spoke up proactively. "Director, I'm feeling much better. Please don't worry."

The Director gave a stiff nod, his face clearly showing he wasn't worried about her well-being at all. He asked coldly, "Dr. Langley, you came highly recommended by Mr. Prescott, so we bypassed the standard recruitment channels and skipped your onboarding physical. But you should have at least informed me you were pregnant. If something happened to you on shift, how was I supposed to explain the loss of his great-grandchild to the Prescott family?"

Lyra knew she was entirely in the wrong, both for hiding her pregnancy and for the catastrophic medical error today. She could easily read the room—the Director despised her.

She wasn't going to survive at Metropolitan General.

Rather than waiting to be fired, it was better to resign and salvage whatever dignity she had left.

So Lyra said softly, "Director, I'll step down voluntarily. Once I'm discharged, I'll write up my formal resignation letter."

"Don't bother with the letter," the Director said briskly. "Given that you're pregnant and out of respect for Mr. Prescott, I'll expedite the process for you. I'll have HR come by tomorrow to finalize the termination of your contract. You don't need to lift a finger—just focus on your rest."

Lyra let out a cold, internal sneer.
