When Quinton and Franklin walked in, the grandfather and grandson were still locked in a tense standoff.
Quinton scratched his head. "Uh... what's going on here?"
Acting every bit the hostess of the house, Lyra stood up with a welcoming smile. "What brings you two by so late? Please, sit down. Can I get you something to drink?"
Quinton quickly waved her off. "Don't trouble yourself! We're two grown men with functioning hands; we can grab our own drinks."
Lyra's gaze shifted to Franklin.
Among Pierce's inner circle, Quinton was essentially a lapdog who followed her around, while Franklin was always perfectly polite but maintained an invisible wall between them.
She had analyzed him countless times. On the surface, Franklin always seemed to advocate for her, but beneath it all, he remained completely emotionally detached.
Lyra knew very well that out of all of Pierce's friends, these two were the most powerful. Plus, Felicity was completely devoted to her as well. She still needed the Foster family's resources, so she had to ensure she remained on good terms with Franklin.
She offered him a warm smile. "What about you, Franklin? What can I get you?"
Franklin's expression remained perfectly smooth, betraying absolutely no emotion as he politely declined. "Thank you, but I'm not thirsty."
Alistair was very familiar with the two men. Pointing a furious finger at Pierce, he ordered, "You two arrived at the perfect time. Talk some sense into this boy! Make him wake up, cut ties with that woman, and finally give Lyra the status she deserves."
Quinton let out an awkward laugh and rubbed his nose. "Well, official status isn't exactly a life-or-death emergency, is it? I feel like this is something Pierce and Lyra need to figure out between themselves. We might be his brothers, but it's not really our place to meddle in his domestic affairs. Right, Franklin?"
Quinton practically sprained his eye aggressively winking at Franklin.
Franklin merely offered a smooth, placating smile. "Indeed. There is no rush on that front. However, when it comes to divorcing Seraphina, I am fully in agreement."
"Exactly! That woman is a literal jinx. Anyone who gets involved with her ends up cursed..."
Pierce shot both of them a lethal glare. His voice was freezing. "If neither of you know how to speak, then shut your mouths."
Quinton immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, my lips are sealed."
Sensing the suffocating tension, Lyra quickly tried to smooth things over. "Pierce, calm down. Quinton and Franklin mean well; there's no need to lose your temper with them. And you two, leave it be. Pierce just had an argument with Grandpa Alistair, so he's in a bad mood right now."
Alistair stood up abruptly. "Enough. It's late, and I don't have the energy to keep arguing with him. The decision is final. First thing tomorrow morning, I am sending my people out to find Seraphina. Once she is found, we proceed with my plan. I'm an old man; how many years do I really have left? I have tolerated her presence for years. Before I close my eyes for the last time, I am going to make sure this family is in order, or my soul will never rest in peace."
Pierce stood up. "I'll walk you out."
"Don't bother. I have a driver," Alistair snapped. "And don't even think about trying to stop me. If you refuse to find her, I will do it myself. You just stay here and take good care of Lyra."
Lyra stepped forward. "Let me walk you out, Grandpa."
