He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 147

"Do you want the truth?"

Pierce glared at her, his gaze burning like a physical brand. "Will you actually tell me the truth?"

Taking a deep breath, Seraphina stared back at him with absolute ice. "The truth is, I'd take anyone as long as it isn't you."

Pierce's pupils violently contracted. "What did you just say?"

"Did you lose your ability to understand plain English while you were abroad?"

"What is that supposed to mean? Anyone but me? Other than Caspian..." He stared at her in utter disbelief. "There were others?"

Seraphina shoved him off her abruptly and slowly began pulling her torn clothes back into place. "You already know I was diagnosed with depression."

"And?"

She looked up, a mocking smile playing on her lips. "Want to guess how I got it?"

Pierce completely froze. "Because of... me?"

She let out a harsh, sarcastic laugh. "Of course it wasn't because of you."

"Then who?"

"A lot of people."

She took her time, calmly and methodically buttoning her shirt.

Pierce assumed that a normal woman's reaction would be to frantically wrap her clothes around herself, scream at him for acting like an animal, and probably slap him across the face.

But she was too calm.

So calm that it felt like... she had been through this exact routine countless times before. Unfazed. Practiced.

He stared at her, horrified. "No. You're not that kind of woman."

"Believe what you want, Pierce. We're done."

She finished dressing, fastened the final button, and placed her hand firmly on the door handle. She looked him dead in the eye. "Open it."
