He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 174

She could feel it in her bones—Alaric was lying.

There was definitely something wrong with that bowl of soup.

She stood there, giving nothing away, quietly deciding that she had to find out exactly what he was up to.

Alaric gathered a few shards and glanced up, only to find Seraphina still staring right at him. His panic spiked, and he blurted out, "I... I'll go get the broom and mop from the kitchen to clean this up before someone slips."

Leaving the broken pieces behind, he practically sprinted toward the kitchen, his steps so frantic he nearly slammed into the doorframe.

Watching his retreating back, a glimmer of realization flashed in Seraphina's eyes. Without hesitation, she followed him.

Pierce, who had been watching her closely, saw her head for the kitchen and quickly caught up, grabbing her by the wrist.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Seraphina yanked her arm free, her voice sharp and dripping with venom. "We're on the thirteenth floor. If I wanted to run, jumping out the window would guarantee my death. I'm not going anywhere."

Pierce's hand hovered in the air, his expression instantly darkening.

After a brief silence, he murmured, "Honestly, I was genuinely afraid you would."

Seraphina sneered. "Not everyone with depression commits suicide. So many people have tried to kill me; I'm not going to do the job for them."

Pierce stared at her intensely for a moment before finally letting go.

Elara was likely the most important person in Seraphina's life. Even if she truly wanted to end it all, she wouldn't do it in her aunt's home.
