After hanging up, Seraphina handed the phone back and said seriously, "Aunt Elara, you heard the call. Right now, the most important thing is gathering evidence. You have to keep your emotions in check. Pretend everything is normal and don't confront Alaric just yet. If he catches on, he might destroy the paper trail."
Elara nodded. Though the pain was visible in her eyes, her resolve was unbreakable. "I understand. I can do this."
Just then, a knock came at the door, followed by Pierce's urgent voice. "Elara, is Sienna alright?"
Seraphina ignored him, turning to her aunt. "Let's go out."
Elara nodded, and they walked to the door together and pulled it open.
The moment the door opened, Pierce's eyes desperately scanned the room.
Seeing Seraphina standing perfectly fine next to her aunt, he reached out and grabbed her arm. "What took so long?"
Noticing his sheer impatience, Elara said plainly, "If you're busy, you can head out first. Seraphina hasn't been back in a long time; she can sleep here tonight and keep me company."
Pierce's hand froze, his face darkening instantly.
"Elara, I'm really sorry to cut this short, but we have some pressing matters to attend to," he said coldly. "We'll head home for now and visit another day."
Elara nodded, her tone flat. "Alright. Drive safe."
"We will."
Pierce tightened his grip and practically dragged Seraphina toward the door.
Out in the living room, Alaric was still sitting on the couch, looking visibly rattled. Seeing them about to leave, he hastily stood up, a stiff smile plastered on his face. "Mr. Prescott, Seraphina, you're leaving already? You didn't even get to eat..."
"No, we have things to do. We're leaving," Pierce shot back.
