He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 193

Alistair slapped Pierce on the back again. "What nonsense are you spouting! Doctor, don't listen to him, he is the father. It's just... our family situation is complicated, and some things can't be made public yet. Please understand."

The doctor still seemed puzzled.

But since the older man had confirmed Pierce was the father, he didn't push the issue. His tone remained grave. "Follow me to my office. It's too crowded here to talk."

Once inside, the doctor closed the door and motioned for them to sit down before speaking slowly. "You've seen the patient's condition. She is extremely weak, needs absolute rest, and cannot be subjected to any emotional distress in the near future."

Alistair nodded. "We understand. Doctor, please use the best medication available."

"Rest assured, we will do everything we can," the doctor agreed. Then, shifting the topic, his tone grew even more serious. "But that's not the main issue. I called you in to discuss the cause of the miscarriage."

The doctor paused before continuing. "We ran a comprehensive check on the patient. Her health is excellent, and the pregnancy was stable. Logically, a sudden miscarriage shouldn't have happened. However, we found traces of red powder on her hands. Lab tests confirmed it's cinnabar."

"Cinnabar?"

Alistair froze, utterly shocked, while Pierce simply furrowed his brows.

The doctor frowned. "Cinnabar is a toxic mineral that is highly dangerous to pregnant women. Prolonged contact or ingestion can easily lead to a miscarriage, and even endanger the mother's life. Knowing there was an expecting mother in the house, why would you have something like toxic cinnabar powder around?"

Pierce frowned deeper, a hint of dismissive confusion in his tone. "Doctor, we've never kept cinnabar in our home. I've never seen it, nor have I ever bought it."

Alistair nodded in agreement. "Exactly. The Prescott family has no use for such things. It's impossible for it to be in the house. Could you have made a mistake?"

"There's no mistake." The doctor was resolute. "We ran the tests multiple times. It is definitely cinnabar. Moreover, the residue on her hands wasn't from a one-time exposure; she must have been in contact with it for quite some time. I strongly suspect the miscarriage was caused by prolonged exposure to this toxin."
