He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 198

Barnaby smiled warmly, unhurried and composed as he replied, "Sir, the men of the Prescott family are all cut from the same cloth. Once they set their hearts on a woman, it's for life. Weren't you exactly the same in your youth?"

That single sentence hit the mark perfectly, bringing up old memories and rendering Alistair entirely speechless.

The rage boiling in his chest was forcefully suppressed, ultimately dissolving into a long, exhausted sigh.

After a long while, the anger, indignation, and disappointment in Alistair's eyes faded completely, leaving only a cold resolve.

"Fine, I can't be bothered to care about what he does anymore. But there must be a reckoning for this lost child. He can't die in vain."

He stared intently at Pierce, his voice icy. "If it's proven that Seraphina did this, I will make her pay with her life. Not even God himself could save her."

"God is far too busy to concern himself with such trivial mortal matters. Better not to bother Him."

Pierce's expression was cold and calm. He offered no further arguments, displaying no extreme emotion, merely dropping a brief sentence: "I'm leaving. Barnaby, take good care of Grandpa. If you need anything, contact Felix directly."

"Yes, Young Master."

Stepping out of the manor's main doors, the cool night breeze washed over him, completely blowing away the suffocating, oppressive air from inside.

Pierce stood by his car, the darkness of the night making his features seem even more profound and hardened.

He took out his phone and dialed Felix's number. "How did the search go?"

Felix sounded hesitant on the other end. "Mr. Prescott, I... I did indeed find some dark red powder deep inside the seams of the mattress. It looks very much like cinnabar."

Pierce's gaze instantly darkened, the air around him dropping in temperature. A chilling aura spread as his fingers tightened on the phone, his knuckles turning white. His voice was bone-achingly cold. "Understood. Keep this from my grandfather for now."

"Yes, Mr. Prescott."
