Seraphina was jerked forward so hard that she slammed right into his chest, the impact leaving her ears ringing.
He was solid like a brick wall.
His tone softened significantly, bordering on a plea. "Come to the hospital with me. Once you get your wounds treated, I'll let you go. I promise. Can you just do that?"
Seraphina looked up at him. "What exactly are you giving me as a guarantee?"
"My honor."
"Ha," Seraphina let out a dry, mocking laugh. "That's the funniest joke I've heard all year."
Too frustrated to keep arguing with her, Pierce simply bent down, scooped her up into his arms, and unceremoniously stuffed her back into the passenger seat, locking the seatbelt firmly in place.
Seraphina watched him with dead, icy eyes before letting her eyelids flutter shut to fake sleep.
She knew perfectly well that she had zero energy left. If she ran now, he would just catch her again immediately.
It was better to conserve her strength.
Seeing that she had stopped fighting him, Pierce let out a small sigh of relief and sped toward the hospital.
The roads were empty this late at night, and in just over ten minutes, the car pulled up to the main entrance of Metropolitan General Hospital.
Pierce killed the engine. "Get out. I'm taking you to the surgical department to get those wounds looked at."
Seraphina opened her eyes, staring at the familiar giant neon sign of Metropolitan General. "I know my way around this place much better than you do. Obstetrics and gynecology are on the west wing of the second floor. You better hurry."
"What about you?"
"I know everyone here. Do you honestly think I can't get a few cuts treated?"
She unbuckled her seatbelt, pushed the door open, and stepped out.
Her legs gave out instantly, and she nearly crumpled to the pavement.
Pierce panicked, but Seraphina's reflexes kicked in. She stumbled, caught herself on the doorframe, and barely managed to stay upright.
"Seraphina, let me take you up..."
"Dr. Somerset!"
