He Gave Her Strawberries, Gave Me Hives (Ford and Sylvia) novel Chapter 177

Chapter 8

BOOM!

Evelyn’s mind went completely blank. The phone slipped from her trembling hand and fell to the cold floor.

Outside was a lifeconsuming fire, and on the other end of the line was the man she had loved for years making passionate love to her own sister.

It turned out that in her moment of life and death, he was busy proving his love on another woman’s body.

The chill of a dead heart instantly overcame the fear of the flames.

As thick smoke billowed, her consciousness began to slip away. She took one last look at the closed, unanswered door and fainted completely.

The next time she regained consciousness, she was in the hospital.

Theodore was by her bedside. When he saw her eyes open, his face immediately filled with worry and apology. Evelyn, you’re awake! I’m so sorry. Last night was Maren’s birthday, and she drank too much. I was busy taking care of her and didn’t notice your callLuckily, the servants found you in time.

He looked into Evelyn’s emotionless eyes and hastily promised, It will never happen again! I swear!

Next time?

Would there be a next time?

Evelyn watched his masterful performance, her heart filled with a numb sorrow.

Perhaps out of guilt, Theodore stayed at the hospital to take care of her for the next few days.

One day, he said he was going out to buy her favorite porridge and left the room.

However, he returned not long after, his face terrifyingly dark. He rushed in and seized her wrist with a grip so strong it felt like it would shatter her bones.

Evelyn! Why did you hang up Maren’s call for help?!His eyes were bloodshot, blazing with fury. Do you have any idea she was almost assaulted by a group of thugs! She’s terrified now, hiding in her room, refusing to see anyone, just crying her eyes out!

Evelyn stared at him in shock. The pain in her wrist was nothing compared to the chill in her heart. I didn’t! I never even touched your phone!

If it wasn’t you, who else could it be? You were the only one in the room! Did a ghost hang up?!Theodore didn’t believe her, his tone aggressive.

Just then, Evelyn’s parents burst in.

Without a word, her mother strode forward and slapped Evelyn hard across the face again.

You curse! You vicious thing! Maren was so good to you your whole life! Is this how you repay her? Are you trying to drive her to her grave?!Her mother shouted as she hit and pinched her, while her father stood by, scolding her harshly.

Evelyn was injured and too weak to fight back. She could only curl into a ball and endure the senseless beating and verbal abuse.

Theodore looked at Evelyn’s pale face and the marks on her body, his brow furrowed. Seemingly unable to bear it, he stepped forward to intervene. Mom, Dad,

lon’t

Theodore! Her mother cut him off, her voice filled with anguish. She’s still not over you, that’s why she keeps hurting Maren! You have to be the one to do it, o make her give up for good! If you don’t hit her today, you’ll be letting our Maren down!

Theodore looked at her mother’s tearful face, then at Evelyn, trembling and huddled in the corner of the bed. His eyes showed a moment of struggle, but in the end, he took the leather whip her father handed him.
