Ryan’s pupils constricted in horror.
He stopped dead in his tracks. “Jessica, what the hell are you doing? Get down from there right now!”
But Jessica paid him no mind, even leaning her body further out over the edge, a terrifyingly mante glint in her bloodshot eyes.
“Not unless you promise to be with me, and promise to never go looking for Chloe again! Otherwise, I’ll jump from here and make you remember me for the rest of your life!”
Ryan’s jaw was clenched so tight it ached, but he remained silent.
Jessica stared at him, her gaze unwavering, then slowly began to release her grip, preparing to jump.
A sharp jolt of terror shot through Ryan’s heart. “I promise! Don’t jump!”
The next moment, Jessica hopped down from the railing and threw herself into his arms with a triumphant smile.
“Ryan, I knew you loved me. Let’s never, ever be apart again.”
With that, she stood on her tiptoes, leaning in to kiss him.
But he turned his head away, avoiding her lips.
“I’m exhausted. I just want to rest.‘

With that, he gently pushed Jessica away and went back into the bedroom.
Watching Ryan’s retreating back, Jessica clenched her fists, forcefully suppressing the wave of frustration that threatened to overwhelm her.
She silently consoled herself.
Even if you had a dog for a few years, you’d still be sad if you lost it.
So, she could forgive Ryan for his momentary sadness.
Besides, Chloe was gone now. And she, Jessica Moore, was the final winner.
Ryan barely slept a wink all night.
Every time he closed his eyes, a montage of memories with Chloe played in his mind.
Them, curled up on the couch watching movies together.
But the final image was always the same: Chloe, walking away from him without a single backward glance.
He would jolt awake, gasping for air as if he were drowning, his eyes raw and bloodshot.
After this happened several times, as dawn began to break, he finally succumbed to exhaustion and dozed off for a short, fitful while.
At six o’clock, Ryan got up out of habit to make breakfast.

Chapter 11
Before he met Chloe, he had never once set foot in a kitchen, let alone put in the effort to make a different, elaborate breakfast every single morning.
His friends had teased him endlessly about it, saying he was completely and utterly whipped.
The feeling of a warm body pressing against his back and a pair of slender arms wrapping tightly around his waist pulled him from his thoughts.
A soft smile touched Ryan’s lips.
“Stop messing around, Chloe.”
The moment the words left his mouth, the air around them seemed to freeze solid.
His brow furrowed deeply, his body tensing, bracing himself for another one of Jessica’s inevitable outbursts.
But reality didn’t unfold as he had expected.
Jessica acted as if she hadn’t heard what he’d said at all.
She said in a flirtatious, coaxing tone, “The weather is so beautiful today. Will you take me out, please?”
Without giving him a chance to refuse, she grabbed his hand and pulled him out the door.
They walked in the park, went shopping and bought a few new outfits, and even rode the Ferris wheel at an amusement park.
Ryan was listless and detached the entire time.
Until Jessica pulled him into a particular restaurant.
“Ryan, do you remember? Three years ago, I planned a whole confession for you right here. You were so cruel to me back then, you told me to get lost in front of all those people.”
She paused, her voice choking up slightly.
“I swore to myself that day that one day, I would sit right here, across from you, openly, as your girlfriend, and have a meal with you. And now, my wish has finally come true.”
A sudden, overwhelming flood of memories rushed into Ryan’s mind.
Of course, he remembered.
That day had been his and Chloe’s fifth anniversary.
He had already bought the ring and the flowers, planning to officially propose to her that very day.
But Jessica’s sudden, dramatic appearance had completely destroyed all his plans.
